i im ben, nice to meet you all. my question is....
can i take scaup plans and use them as the basis for an aluminum boat???? im a solid welder and would like a more custom boat than a jon that can handle stumps and rock and is lighter for use in very shallow water??? what do yall think???

I believe one has already been done in aluminum. So sounds like a good idea to me. I think the builder was from Oregon, but i am not positive.

the scuap isn't one I have personally done in aluminum but there is another guy up north that did one so yes it can be done.

basically you can take any wood boat plan and convert it to be built in aluminum fairly easy. since you are already a custom to working with metals you should not have any problems seeing right away the areas that will be different in metal compared to the wood. Also depending on the tools you have access to or the amount of work you are willing to do you can customize the hull even more with the aluminum. You are going to want to use a 5052 H32 if your doing small sheets or the better choice and bigger sheets are 5086 Marine alloy (hard stuff)

if you have any questions post up and someone will help you out

I know of two BB3's and 1 Scaup done in aluminium. They were sweet boats. I don't think the guys that built them have been around here for a while. I wish I could do one out of aluminium..but alas..I don't know how to weld.

Lee you can do them out of your garage with a little cheap mig set up for aluminum and all it takes is a little practice to weld :)

Isn't Rods picture of the scuap in the info section somewhere

These four boats are all aluminum just for a ideas of the wide range you can build
