Bob, hope that your season is going well. We closed up duck camp yesterday and had a really good year. One last duck trip down south and then I will make a couple of stabs at the snows.
My take on the DP as a true layout is this. It will work but the ride is a bumpy one due to its light weight. Also, you will have some noise from waves slapping the flange. IMO, you definitely need a tender boat as with any layout rig just for safety purposes unless you are planning to use it in shallow water and fairly close to shore.
