More bad news for Foiles...

Bad news? It all sounds like good news to me.

Having poachers processed through our court system is always good news.

Pleading not guilty is a very ballsy move. A friend of mine's little brother got arrested for some serious Federal crimes. He got a lot of advice on how to fight it but the best advice, which he took, was plead guilty (he was). He was nailed in a sting operation and probably did have a chance at getting found not guilty on some counts but the feds did their homework on the case and it was going to be highly unlikely to dodge every indictment. He was told take the 6 year plea bargain because if they get you at all you will do 30.

I have no idea what plea bargains were offered to him but the fact he's pleading not guilty lends me to believe the same arrogance that got him into this mess is going to continue to wreck his life.

It could simply mean there are ongoing negotiations as to which counts he pleads to, what property he will surrender, etc. Funny how few of us really believe he could be "not guilty".

told ya all his next video would be called "falling arrows" :) The Feds and cases in court there pretty tight. I' ve seen thousands of very unhappy fellas that things didn't workout to good for them. If guilty & conficted "LeavenWorth" has nice ring to it, the "Hutt" would be cool also. Even though he deserves somewhere like that for casting a bad light on sportsmen, he'll end up somewhere alot softer.

I don't know about that, Vick hit the big pen for dog fighting.

Either way, money and time and surrender of possessions should occur.

And they Canada get's their turn at bat.

So, did he ever hunt in Mexico or other places south???

Eric,

Considering what is happening over on The Refuge and what happened in Utah last week, it might be a good idea to not allow us to comment on this legal matter on your site.

I am all for an open door policy, but I don't trust the civil legal system in our nation when it comes to finding fault while grasping at straws.

If any of us feel the need to comment there are hundreds of threads on The Refuge to post them on. Let those guys lawyers sort things out when the family of the guide in Utah comes knocking.

I will not comment further on this subject.

Eric,

Regarding Ray's post:

The 'fuge has been pretty harsh on Jeff through this whole thing. There is a lot of negativity associated with the incident. Then on top of that Jeff was a sponsor and apparently pulled his sponsorship along the same time that several threads were locked and or moved into private forums. A few people accused the moderators of removing them because Jeff "persuaded them" to as a sponsor. Chester replied that they were moved or locked due to content and nothing to do with any conversations with Jeff. Its a pretty nasty bashing over there (seems to be a trend) There has been a lot of nasty stuff both about Jeff and anyone that might not be ready to believe all that has been said so far. Guilty or not he isn't getting his day in court in the eyes of the duck hunting community.

Dave

Thanks for shedding some light on it. Although I see no way the comments made have any legal ramifications to the site or it's participants.

Well the biggest issue on the refuge was that a Foiles pro staffer killed himself last weekend. He was embroiled in a mini-controversy that resulted from a few folks on a Utah website and then the refuge forums posting a YouTube video of him guiding a couple of TV show hosts. In the video one of the hunters is clearly "floating the 4th" shell repeatedly. Once this came to light shortly after the Foiles threads were tapping out...the feeding frenzy ensued. Most importantly, according to various people including Foiles himself who made some unbelievable comments after this guys death, the comments that were made on refuge are what lead him to kill himself. The guy had a wife and a daughter. The day after the video was posted, all this blew up and folks on the refuge forums were supposedly contacting the Utah DNR etc, this guy dropped off all the pro staffs he was on. I thought that was excessive considering that by and large he was regarded as a stand up guy and admitted that a mistake had been made(according to his friends) and had been visited by Utah law enforcement and paid a fine. Sadly he took his own life last Saturday night. I only wish I had copied Jeff's comments that were posted a couple days later as they were in my opinion, the final nail in his coffin for many who had ridden the fence regarding his indictment. The entire internet and in particular the refuge and Foiles website have been sanitized. And of course, there are people on his side (allegedly) suggesting that attorneys have copies of everything and potentially may try to use the new internet harassment and bullying laws to avenge the death of the guy that took his own life. I think it's likely that you'll get an email from high speed attorney regarding this post.

That is a very sad story!

Unfortunately civil conversation is hard to find on the internet. It is one of the great things about this site and a reason I avoid the refuge.

If what has been said in this thread attracts an attorneys attention then we need tort reform even more then I already thought.

Not until it was mentioned did I know a guy killed himself. I haven't gone to the 'Fuge' or other duck hunting site in a long long time. I had never heard of him before today. Sorry I don't keep up on pro staffs, the most over rated thing to ever come about. Seems like this site didn't jump on that so why would anyone care? We can't be held responsible for what happened before we knew about it.

I don't see that as an issue since this was only about Foiles, a public figure. He sold the videos and his name.
Really is everyone that scared he is going to pull out his Lawyer Dagget? He can't, and I haven't seen anyone piling on a dead man or his family. It's sad about him, and more so for his family, but this is an important issue. It won't surprise me with today's mentality if Foiles isn't the only one. I'm not naming anyone and I have no idea who would break laws, I'm just saying it isn't a bad thing to rake people over the coals if it means cleaning up the rest. He's got better then a 95% chance of being convicted here and there is another country waiting.

I don't see anyone here saying they know inside facts about this case or other things he may have done so there is no criminal defamation. You have to be claiming to know something that is not common knowledge or opinion and can be proven to be false.
Heck I've never met him and hope I never do. Nothing I know or can say will hurt him more then charges in two different countries has.

Tim your post looked like about 300 others I saw on the refuge. I had never heard of the pro staffer either...don't really pay attention myself. The reason I suggested that an attorney would contact Eric is based on the fact that this is a feeding frenzy and idiot legal teams tend to do things that mean nothing and cost money. Imagine the opening 5 seconds of the Pink Floyd song Money.....

Jay, there is no reason or cause for anyone to contact Eric... not to mention the freedom of speech rights, that we still have in this country... (or has Obuma taken them from us, since the last time I looked) Jeff Foiles is a public figure, he is open to public discussion and scrutiney just like sports figures, celebrities and politicians...
