In 2 days, it will be a year since I joined Duckboats.net, and as I was looking back over some of the questions I have asked in that time I cant help but feel embarrassed and thankful to all of you. When I joined, it was kind of weird. I had been working as a commercial fisherman for years, but had no experience with smaller boats. You cant learn much about small skiffs working on 25-50' commercial boats, but despite that, I thought I knew it all. I came on here with unreal expectations. I wanted someone to tell me exactly what kind of boat I needed for the conditions I "described", at a cheap price, and I now realize how stupid that was. I asked some really dumb and, Im sure, repetitive questions, and I now see I came across as a whiny brat. Around July, I realized I wasnt getting anywhere with my search for a duck boat, and decided to not post a single question on any forum until I tried an idea out personally. I borrowed, bummed, begged, and even bought and sold several small boats over the summer, paddling, poling, pushing and floating them on the Bay and creeks around here, in every weather condition imaginable, in areas I wanted to hunt. During that time, I realized what I expected people to answer on here was only obtainable by personal experience. I also learned what would work, and wouldnt work for me.
Despite my crazy, whiny, bratty questions, everyone who responded to them did so in a polite and helpful manner, and did their best to answer my questions, and I thank you all. I have a couple small paddle and pole boats I will be using this season. I still havnt found "the" boat, but thats the fun of it. I thank you all for putting up with my questions, I really appreciate the information and this site, and apologize for acting like a nut at times.

Good luck finding the perfect boat. I have also been searching for it, bought and sold more boats than I care to count and still 25+ years later, I have not found the perfect boat. What I can tell you is I now have a boat for almost every situation. Currently, 5 boats in the fleet each one has it's purpose and I'm still looking for a better mouse trap. This site has also been very helpful to me in many ways. There is an abundance of knowledge here and everyone I have conversed with has been fantastic.

Good luck this season

Like I tell my wife I need 5 boats for all the conditions. So far I have 3 but the other 2 are hopefully coming the future!!

I don't know if there is "THE" boat, there are "the" boat for every condition and place. I got that question from one of my gfs friends last weekend when she was at our house, "why do you have so many boats and why are they parked in the garage". Still looking myself though, its like the pot at the end of the rainbow!!

I learned a lot on here too. You hit the nail on the head when you said "Thats the fun of it."
When I was looking at moving to Oregon I call a boat dealer and told him I wanted a boat to Hunt Klamath Lake, do some diver hunting on the coast, and be able to fish the rouge river. He told me I needed 4 boats.
I asked him why and his respose was" You need a different boat for each pupose, so if you are going to buy three boats from me you might as well buy four and have a ski boat too."
Thats when I realized there is no such thing as "the Perfect Boat"
Good luck in your continued search.

Been looking 40 years for the perfect boat, it don't exist except in my mind. One of these days before I tip over I'm going to build it!,

I'll let you guys in on it though. lol

I asked some really dumb and, Im sure, repetitive questions, --------------------------------- Hey, I think we all do that. Isn't this what this fourm is all about? We all learn a bit when someone answers a question. I have come a light year since June. Each of us has a strength. It's all good.
