Shot this Pintail in January. The story about it is that me and a friend of mine were on our way to a woods to go rabbit hunting and i saw some ducks in a puddle in a corn field. We got the binoculars on them and there was 12 pintails. We were trying to decide to try and stalk up on them and jump shoot them but there was no cover in the corn field. So we decided to put together a hunt for them in the morning. we drove about another mile and a bigger flooded corn field there was about 100 ducks mostly mallards but on one end there was a bunch of pintail. We got permission from the farmer and set up on the big flooded spot in the corn. just before sunrise there was a flock of about 30 Pintails that had circled over our decoys in the flooded cornfield about 3 times. Every time they passed they got closer and closer, but was still about 1 min before sunrise. on the last pass over us they were close enough to reach out and touch. I could literally feel the wing beat on my layout blind. As the first few landed my cell timer went off in my pocket and i was the only one lucky enough to get this Beauty. The other guy i was with got a Drake Mallard and the 3rd person didnt get anything. We were facing the sunrise and i only could see the silhouette of this LOOOONG tail. It has always been a dream of mine to shoot a mature pintail like this.
