NDR, after season

Carl,
I had to anchor down the ice tent today,,,,,,,,,,,, 19mph winds 16 degrees feels like 3 degrees. Still miss ice fishing? 😁 Yes I was dressed for it, yes I was sitting in a heated shelter.
Winds that high, we usually stayed home! Too many wind flags and no fancy tents "back in the day".

Dave,
Back when I still lived in Michigan, after church on Sunday in the winter, I would drive to Pine Lake outside of Detroit when there was some public access still available. I would set up several tip ups about 100 yards out near a weed bed, and then go back to my truck in the parking lot, listen to football, and read the New York Times Sunday edition. When it was snowing, I had to use binoculars to scan for flags. When a flag went up, the time it took to run out across the ice was about the right enough time to let the pike run with the shiner.

Winter fish taste better, especially pike!

Nice catch.

Carl,
"back in the day" huh? Have you ever drilled your holes with a spoon auger? Used a rod with pegs to wind the line onto, instead of a reel? Used a metal coffee can, of burning charcoal briquets, to keep the hole from freezing? Used a lit Coleman lantern inside a cut out metal bucket, which you sat on to keep your butt warm? Them's the good old days,,,,,,,,,,, ya right.

Have you ever drilled your holes with a spoon auger? I had a spoon auger someone gave me but it so dull I stuck with a spud bar that I could keep sharpening myself.
Used a rod with pegs to wind the line onto, instead of a reel? Yep, first jigging rod was one of these.
Used a metal coffee can, of burning charcoal briquets, to keep the hole from freezing? No but I used a coffee can with charcoal to cook deer chops!
Used a lit Coleman lantern inside a cut out metal bucket, which you sat on to keep your butt warm? NOPE!
