Need advice for painting a Ram-X kayak

I'm buying a kayak to use for small pond hunting and need some advice on how to paint it. The current bright blue/white hull has to go! But I'd really like to do it right and do it once. Anybody have experience here?

Ram-x is polyethelene, pretty hard to get excellent adhesion. Were it me I'd prep with sandpaper, and I'd krylon it and plan to touch up every year or maybe even mid-seaon.
 
I think you are better off trying to find a camo or dark colored one if you havent bought it yet. Even krylon fusion has a hard time sticking to these things.
 
Bring a burlap bag and cover it. Or, attach raffai grass to a long bungee and stretch over the kayak when you get to where you want to hunt. Painting will only work so well on PE rotomolded products.

Alternatives to sanding are to flme treat the PE before paiting. To do this, take a torch and adjust it so the flame is yellow. Lightly go over the kayak to "primne" the surface. Then paint. You can also find primers for PE that you can apply prior to paining. These tend to be very expensive.

Thanks for the advice everybody. The kayak is virtually brand new and I'm picking it up for nothing, so if i have to spend the extra $$ on camo or expensive primers, or even paint it a few times, it's worth it and still affordable. Any suggestion on primers if I choose to go that route?

Go here http://www.3m.com/ and type in adhesion promoters (we are not allowed to call them primers - more gov regulation). Shoud get you a good list. You can also type in primers but I bet the list would not be as long. Or you can search any of the products I provided above. Can always call 3M directly and get an expert as well.
