I have a 7 month old American Water Spaniel that I have no intention on breeding. I am wondering what you guys think about having your hunting dog neutered. He is not aggressive and does not mark in the house. He does mark outside but im ok with that. He did pee on a little terrier the other day that came into our yard. He did pee on my 5 year old's bed once he was house broke at the time but he hasn't done it since. What is the feeling on this?

I don't think neutering him will lessen his Doghood. If you aren't going to breed him, it will eliminate the chance that your neighbor ends up with mixed puppies from your dog at least. There are plenty of mixed and unwanted dogs in the world already. The humane society in town has a sign that says 36 dogs and 115 cats available and we are a small town.

NEUTER.A vet once told me ,that a dog can smell a bitch in heat, from two miles away. He'll be a safe and healthy dog.

If you don't plan on studding him, neuter for sure for all the reasons the other guys posted.

I have a little French Brittany Spaniel that I spayed and she never lost her drive to hunt. She is an incredible upland game dog.
