I don't know if I will get much done this year as I do not have heated help buildings... But the wood is here and the epoxy is in route... I did build my modified scaup, In January of 2015 by using lots of heat lamps... But I don't know that I need to push this one that fast. I'd be happy if I could get the sheets scarf together and the gunnels and the bulkheads and transom tied into place before it gets too cold.

Great idea doing the scarfing outside; ought to make cleanup a lot easier! Sorry I forgot, but, what did you decide to build? Looking forward to seeing it come together.

Well, since you have 6 or 8 sheets of ply scarfed, I'll assume it's not a Devlin Broadbill (unless you are making a fleet)!
 
Got the bulk heads cut today.... Epoxy is to arrive on Monday... I will get the panels scarfed and cut next week... And should get the boat stitched together.. certainly by New Years. We will see if the rest will wait for spring, or if I break out all the heat lamps and tarp.. I always liked his boats. Looks like fun and I can't wait to see the progress. Working on a solution to get my boat out of your way.
 
Phil, would you share the enhancements you have planned? I know you intend to stitch and glue, overall length, width, depth? Target weight?

NO worries Paul.. While room is at a premium.. I have room still.

I don't have any other specific alterations... the below are the specs of the ATC. My sides are 9" and 24": vs 20" at the decking.

Length: 15' 11" on deck
Max Width: 48" on floor, 59" on rail
Side Height: 8", 20" including decking
Weight: 450 lbs
Capacity: 2 persons or 950lbs of motor/gear/persons
Max HP: 35 HP

I am doing 2 layers of 10oz ... and thinking about putting 5 oz of kevlar in between them... Anyone have any thoughts on that??? I do prefer a permanent fuel tank. If I go cheap on it now, it will be constructed to easily be able to install. I drew up my plans based on what I know of stitch and glue boat building, and looking at pictures. I have asked Brad a couple questions.. . but...



SO.. Back to the Kevlar.. this is a FLAT bottom... this is a MUD boat... the bottom is 18 mil (3/4") meranti plywood... with 2 10 oz layers of glass. Do I need to??? SHOULD I ??? add 5 oz of Kevlar in there?

Epoxy and glass showed up today....
 
Hey Phil, for what it's worth I put a kevlar layer on all my boats because we break a fair amount of ice in the late season. Also for what it's worth I've never actually put a scratch in the boat that went down to the kevlar, but I do like knowing it's there. I think if you run in areas with a lot of stumps it would be some good peace of mind as well as long as weight isn't a concern.
