New Retriever

[inline]Check out my new "retreiver", had dropped a redhead, feet up dead, that mysteriously dissapeared right in front of the blind as the wind pushed it straight in. 10 min. Later when I looked back over my shoulder as this redhead was moving off too! Tugged on the wing against my new minkador retreiver until I could get my cell phone out and snap this. I might have trouble delivering to hand but the ladies will love it for sure ? It left the Bluebills from the same pile, what's the message there?

Alan - Minks are a significant predator for ducks. Problem is, they are generally nocturnal. One of our friends is a grad student at University of Illinois and is researching minks and their impact on waterfowl. Feisty little rascals...

Amen to fiesty, after minkodors first try at my bagged ducks I moved them within arms length and was amazed to have him run and swim all around me for about 5 minutes looking for where I put them and then the tug of war til I got the phone out.
I've seen mink around this point before but never as bold as this guy. I hammered the other redhead he took first, I could see the blood pool in the water when it fell. That smell must have triggered every predatory bone in his/her body. Your grad student friend is more than welcome to use the pic if he needs it. let me know and i'll email original too.

Yeah I let him drag them under the rip rap rocks, plus I thought he was looking at me like a big Kielbasa too, hunted there again the next day and both ducks were completely gone !

Great picture, Alan! Mink are usually pretty skittish, but they'll fight to the death over a meal if they are really hungry. I've heard stories about mink repeatedly grabbing perch from ice fisherman, but never retrieving ducks.

Shot a buck near the river about four years ago dressed out the deer and dragged it about hundred and fifty feet. I went back to get my knife I had left. There was a mink already on the gut pile but he let me get my knife. lucky me....

That's neat Al! Getting to observe that was worth the two ducks.

Now you've given me a new idea for my next mink set.
