Parker paint on a vehicle?

As my father-in-law is downsizing into elder care, I've "inherited" his '83 Suburban that is on the verge of becoming a rust bucket. Counting it a blessing (of sorts) for my being a good son-in-law for the past 40 years, his daughter (my wife) says "just paint it camo, and turn it into your huntin' truck." If only it were four-wheel-drive, but, oh well ...

Anyway, I really like the green tone of Parker camo paint. Anybody have any experience spraying it on a vehicle? If not, any other suggestions? Thanks for any and all advice ... I'll even try to post a photo when I'm done, so y'all can drool:)
 
I don't see why it won't work. Thin it to get it thru the sprayer and try it out. Proper prep is probably more important than the type of paint used. I had an 86 Burb 6.2 diesel 2WD and it was fine off road - mine had posi-traction and I don't recall ever being stuck. Of course knowing it was only 2WD was the deciding factor in where we went with it.
 
Thanks, Pete ... Good idea on the positraction. I've heard it's nearly as good as 4wd ... Will look into maybe installing a kit.
 
You might already have it. A lot of trucks back then had posi instead of the more expensive 4WD. In many cases it was standard on vehicles.

I had a 63 Ford Gallaxy 500 3 on the column that had posi-traction - worked great in the snow. I never realized how good posi was until I was going skiing with that Ford and lost a chain on the way up the mountain. With the posi engaged we still made it up and back down with only the one chain.
 
Since the Parker is flat,I would scuff up the paint,give it a good wipe down with aprep solution to remove any old wax and roll it on,cut in with a brush,unless you already have the spray equip.
 
Hello Steve,I wet sanded a jeep with 400 grit and rolled parker marsh grass on it and it has been on there for a long time.A guy don't have to wet sand you use less paper though.The suburban should be coated with single stage acrylic enamel unless it has been repainted.I have used parker over acylic enamel and it has stuck fine.I also put a powertrax locker made by lockrght in the rearend of my jeep and I rarely put it in 4wd.You can fit alot of blocks in a sub that will be great.

I'll even try to post a photo when I'm done, so y'all can drool:) When I was working for the Arizona Game and Fish Deparment, my cranky division chief said all 4WD does is get you really, really far back beyond help before you get stuck...may not be completely true, but it has some truth in it. Looking forward to your photos--an old buddy of mine did that to a Sub, and when it was all tricked out you'd never guess how old and beat up it started out...
