should you light sand between re coating or no
what have you done .boat is totally new rebuild only have 1st coat of parkers paint
need to put full coat on then ready for water
thanks john

I always sand between coats, especially after the first coat. It smoothes the finish and helps the paint stick. It is also very important to clean away the dust after sanding. A tack rag is best, but a rag lightly dampened with a paint thinner works well too.

Check the instructions after that. Some paints suggest recording in a certain time frame. The directions may indicate to sand lightly between coats. Even though I have used in with good success in the past, I am not real familiar with Parker's.

Good morning, John~

As Jon says, definitely sand (I use 100 grit) and then wipe down with a rag soaked with paint thinner.

I use my orbital sander wherever I can - then by hand for edges and tough-to-get-to spots. Just scuff the surface - to give both mechanical "tooth" and a chemically "fresh" surface for the new paint.

All the best,

SJS
