Pettit or Parker paint

Pettit Paint or Parker duck boat paints. Has anyone tried one or the other and switched, durability between the 2. Need to repaint duck boat, has parker paint on now, thinking of switching to pettit.

I've used Parker in the past but haven't tried Pettit. For my money, I won't use anything but FME (flat marine enamel) from Lou Tisch at Lock Stock and Barrel. Longest lasting and hardest finish I've ever seen. It might be a little more money but in the long run well worth it.

Jamie,
Give us a holler and let me know how we can be of service.
Paint info and FME color chart is on the website and in the downloadable catalog.
Thanks much,
Lou

Jamie - Thanks for posting this. I am about to start a paint project and just assumed Lou's paint would not be practical for a large area like an interior. I am rethinking that based upon what I am reading here.

Pete- do you thin the FME out? I saw Lou talking about thinning the paint when he did the canoe in the other thread.

Pat,

Yes I do because the sprayer I use works better with thinner paint. That and it goes further. I can't remember what the ratio is for thinner to paint but I'm thinking something like 20% thinner. I just put some in and stir it up to see how thin it gets. Just remember to paint in the shade to get a good smooth finish. I have painted in bright hot sun and I got a lot of orange peel but that wasn't a bad thing for a duck boat and it turned out OK.

Thanks Pete- I haven't got to the painting proccess yet but its on the mind and the topic was up. Still trying to figure out flooring and casting deck. Also have to do a little rewiring too- they guy wired ever switch individually to the 1 battery.

It sounds like it will be perfect for my boat also. I like the color options. How does the FME handle "roll & tip" application? I don't have a sprayer and have not plans on getting one. A slight orange peel texture won't bother me at all.

You don't need to tip, just roll to achieve a beautiful finish.

Not sure if anyone has offered this type of paint up... but all of my boats... and the front porch on the house has FME on it!!! I used a roller and brush.
