Picture tuesday...take a kid hunting.

On Sunday the ringnecks rained down on us. As the hammer dropped on my last bird for the morning I unloaded the Browning to watch Austin work on his limit. With ringers falling in from everywhere he decided that already having 2 on the water he wants to shoot the Daisy. The plan is for me to hold the scattergun ready to hand it to him when a shot presents itself ... so I do! (I set it down for the pic) He shot 1 more bird then he was ready for breakfast. This is his 9th year in the blind and his 3rd as a shooter. One of the benefits of hunting in God's country (the Everglades) is that a great many days you can hunt in a t-shirt. We hunted on Saturday with some friends and were invited to do the same on Sunday but there is something about being with just your kids that makes the hunt that much more memorable.November_2006_040.jpg

ahhh and another great advantage of hunting God's Country (the Everglades) is the great big super duper huge blood sucking birds that buzz around looking for the chance to carry a young 'un off. Hence the need for the Daisy! Watch out for that boy!

Seriously though, that's great! Sounds like you had a great time. :) I'm looking forward to when my buddy can bring his daughter along. That will be a lot of fun. Right now she has somewhat of an identity crisis going...she thinks she's a pup...crates up nicely, sit, heel, stay, fetch. Not sure if she's gun shy yet or not ;-)

He shoots at plastic decoys. No birds that I am aware of can carry off a kid... I did once have 2 big mosquitos grab me by each arm and I heard one say to the other "Do you want to eat him here or take him home?". Splash on a little 115% deet and that takes care of them.
