Plywood sources and Merry Christmas

OK guys, I have dusted off the BBIII plans, my new shop is set up, and duck season ends 1-28-06 down south. I am wondering if there is a source for marine ply within driving distance of Nashville Tennessee. Say within 200 miles?????? I could do an overnight if a little further. I would rather pick it up then having it delivered.

BTW Merry Christmas everyone, be safe and and have a Happy New Year!!!!

Type in "woodfinder.com" and see what shows up. Sometimes it is amazing what you have in your own back yard that you never knew was there. Not sure how far away World Panel is from you..how far is South Bend Indiana??? Johnsons Workbench has a store there and they can have the Okoume ready for pick up.

hmmm their website said they had it. did they just not have it in stock.. or was it the wrong thing? should i not bother trying them when i'm ready to buy?

ahhh... thanks lee. seems if you are gonna say you have something.. you should have all types of that something! :) too bad too.. they are a few miles from me.

Jeff

Well..if they said they had marine grade, I would run over and look at it to see if it had the stamps....maybe they forgot to type in "marine grade" on their website.

can you use cedar? and what type treated or non treated? i can get tons of cedar ,
i am fixing to start building a cara. and thinking aobut the wood. everywhere up north has marine grade wood. but i live in louisiana. which wood would you choose, for the humidity and heat

Check several sources and have them give you a quote for what you need and make sure they INCLUDE FREIGHT in there prices. Supplier A might have a lower price per panel than Supplier B, but if A is farther away than B, B might actually turn out to be less expensive. Additionally, if you don't have a business address to deliver to, freight might be more expensive, or you might be able to arrange pickup at the terminal. And depending on the shipper, the order might show up and the trucker stands there with his hands in his pockets while YOU unload it. Finally, if the crating is busted, or there is visible damage to the panels through the crating, MAKE SURE YOU SIGN THE BILL OF LADING THAT THERE IS DAMAGE. Very tough to make a damaged freight claim without it written on the paperwork.

Call up some small lumberyards in your area..or better yet..go in and see them...ask if they have any plywood sources for marine grade plywood..if they look at you like a deer in the headlights, have them call a couple of their suppliers..see if they buy from Huttig or Weyerhauser and have them call to see if they have some.
