pneumatic carving tools

Is there a tool or hand piece out there that is like the foredom that runs on air. I have an 80 gallon air compressor in my shop that I would love to be able to use for carving or roughing out decoy heads and bodies. Thanks

I suppose it is possible. Two things that come to mind why I wouldn't use one for carving decoys. First is speed and tourqe. I have several thousand hours behind a die grinder carving bronze, steel and aluminum. There is no way in the world I would try to hold a head in my hand and carve it using a die grinder. I know how bad Foredom nicks are and I would imagine a die grinder nick would be worse! Second thing is oil blowing onto the material. Nothing like having oil on your decoys before you paint.
Let us know how it goes if you try it.

Riley,

I actually have been using a die grinder with a rasp bit to carve my foam decoys. It cost me $15 at harbor freight. I was tired of dremels burning up, and can't afford a Foredom, so I figured I'd give it a shot. The one I got exhausts out the bottom, so no oil on the work. You can control the speed by how hard you press on the trigger. I haven't hit my hands yet, but be careful at first until you get the feel for it. I'm very happy with it so far.

I roughed out this GE with the die grinder.
