portable table saws

before we went to the new format i was asking about portable table saws - i am looking at the bosch 4000-09 a 10" model and wondered if anybody had experience with them --- also any other input would be appreciated

its use will be light hobby use at this time - don't know about after i retire if i'll get more involved in woodworking

never saw any of the responses if there were any to the post on the old site, since i posted it late yesterday and didn't look back until this morning - sorry if those of you who replied never got an answer back to any questions you might have asked

I have this saw and I really like it. I wish I had the stand with wheels it comes with now. I have a stationary stand for the saw and it is a bit heavy to be luging around. It does have the most power of any "portable" saw I have ever used.

If I had the dollars and space I would have a true cabinent saw, but I would still keep this one for when I am needing to work on a project away from home. It runs real smooth and has enough power to rip anything I have asked it to do. I would definitely recommend you get all the optional out feed supports.

I'm not familar with that particular saw. It might be your budget would allow for a nice used machine. If you do some digging, and Michigan is a good area, you can often find much higher quality used machinery. I follow online machinery auctions and have seen some pretty good deals on Unisaws recently. Have you considered this? I would recommend to anyone that one economical way to a good saw is to buy an older one and fix it up.
 
I bought one in Oct. for a installation saw. So far I haven't heard any complaints about it from my guys. It is a little on the heavy side with the mobile stand, 109 lbs. The 8" pneumatic wheels are big enough to roll up or down stairs and the stand is plenty stabile. We use it mostly for ripping and I would recommend attaching a shop vac. to the dust port. Colin
 
I sold 4 of them over the summer. All the people like them who purchased them. We had them on a 50% off buy special so it was an EVEN better deal.

I own a Dewalt that works well. Its table expands out and is nice when your cutting a lil larger stuff. For the money I used to have on the othe ACE 10" saws I paid 100$ for it worked great for what I used it for even cut up 2x2 stock of exotics for duck calls ect. The are a nice saw for the price.

Bosch is good stuff you would like that one also.
 
i am not too mechanical - a used one that needs fixin up might be outta my skill level - never considered fixin one up - will have to think about that - seeing what some of you do with projects you are way outta my league - i would be a weekend warrior as far as wood working, and fixing up old tools - not a professional class like many of you
 
George, I've had mine since last winter. It really suits my needs well. It stays up against the wall for occasional cutting of small stuff in a space-challenged shop. When I need to cut full sheets of plywood, I can wheel it out into the yard during the summer or into the garage in the winter. I'm with Don on getting the feed supports.
