Prop Guards for South Bay Duckboats

Good morning, All~

Here's the latest Technical Bulletin from the R&D crew here at Pencil Brook Boatworks.....although I - I mean The Company - has not yet installed the new "device".

I had a batch of these Prop Guards made up specifically for South Bay Duckboats - whose notched sterns are notorious for suffering from the propellers out their outboards.

They are 1/8-inch stainless steel - of the 316 alloy (which I understand from our Metallurgists here at the Boatworks is the best for the marine environment). I had the holes bored because I will use no mechanical fasteners. Instead, I will "glue" them in place with 3M 5200. The holes will allow the 5200 to get a "grip" on the plates. I will also scuff sand the area on the hull - to remove any paint and provide some "tooth" for the adhesive caulk.

I'm not quite sure how I will clamp these in place whilst the 5200 cures - but I'm envisioning a custom jig + clamp(s).

I'll have some at both Tuckerton this weekend and at the SSWA Duckboat Show on October 28 if any South Bay owners want to take a look.

I will be replacing these Pine blocks with the new prop guards as soon as I get back from Jersey. (Note the new drain - a good idea for any trailer vessel IMO).

Good idea. As far as custom clamping; it looks like a good opportunity to pull out the old pipe clamps, flip them around to spread, and have at it.
