Proud papa...

Our son Aaron is 19 years old and currently attends Indiana Wesleyan University. He hunts with me and also carves decoys. He's also the first Eagle Scout in our family. Here's a shot of him holding his first hollow carved Illinois River Blue Wing Teal. It was an order from a brother fowler in Louisiana. He did us proud.

I thank God for my kids... Pat

Congrats to Aaron and yourself. We just had our first son (and only child) back in November and I really look forward to the time when he can join me afield and help in the shop with the boats.

Pat,

Looks like you are doing a fine job of handing that tradition down!! You should be proud. My oldest son is 9 and just got his Bear Badge in the cub scouts and will be moving up to the Webelos next year. I'm gonna show him your pic of an Eagle Scout that's a decoy maker!! For his den's "Whittling Chip" this year, I had them carve a duck head out of Dove soap...it's a start.

Thanks for sharing! PG

My son and I are both Eagle scouts Pat. Scouting is one of the best things there is for young men. You learn skills that no one else will teach nor in most cases want or care to teach anymore.

Trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and Reverent.

The most important things to me in my life come from my childhood. You may lose track of them for a while, but they come back.

You should be very proud Pat. And enough with the teal decoys for a while, ya’ll are driving me nuts!!

Nothing better than scouting to teach a young man morals. You learn so much from scouting. You should be very proud! Nice decoy!

Looks and sounds like a fine young man - you have every right to be proud! My son is 13 and two merit badges away from getting his star rank, was just voted in for order of the arrow and was 1 of 2 kids chosen by the scout master to attend a National Youth Leader Training course this year! With that said he is just starting to take an interest in girls and all though that is a very good thing - I'm hoping he does not lose all of his focus because I would love to see him make Eagle! Congratulations to both you and Aaron.

Pat,You have done a fine job with him,and proud you should be!!! I see he has inherited your talent for carving , a fine young man!! My son is a life scout and soon to be eagle scout( september) He was also the first ever scout in his troop to be the recipient of the Medal of Merit. I am very proud of him..............Charlie

Congratulations Pat, In your family "A chip off the old block" has a double meaning.( : )

Nice to see the carving tradition continue. My boy is an Eagle Scout , and attending Iowa State in Ames. Caught and banded 140 Wood Ducks for his Eagle project. Been busy at the shows? I will look you up at St. Charles. Bob

Guys - It is so encouraging to hear all the involvement and support of Scouting. It is truly one of the finest programs for boys to build character, life skills and morals in the outdoors. I thank God for my time with Aaron in Scouting.

August 2008 the monthly program theme for Boy Scouts around the country is Shooting. It would be awesome if every sportsmens group around the country got involved with at least one of their local Boy Scout troops and worked with the boys on a shooting program. That kind of involvement is what helps youth build interest in hobbies for a lifetime. Please consider it.

Bob - Good to hear from you brother! I am doing well and carving lots. You guys up to your ears in water down at Quiver? We are. Waiting for the river to come down so we can begin levee work with USFWS. We picked up a nice grant with them through their Partners for Wildlife Program. They have been awesome to work with. Let's make sure we gun together this year. We can set the layout up on Clear Lake and chase divers if you get tired of shooting mallards. Let me know. See you at St. Charles and God bless! Pat

Awesome Pat..........Eagle Scout is a huge acomplishment...........He will go places with that on his resume.........Kevin

Pat, congratulations to your son. Eagle Scout is an honor and he should be very proud of his accomplishments. The same goes to you and yours for raising him up right. As a Adult Leader in the US Marine Corps, Young Marine program so many parents have left it up to others to raise their kids. Responsibility has gone out the window. Be proud when you look at your son, like I said you have done a great job. Being there is a big part and you seem to be well involved.

Pat,

Congratulations and thanks for sharing with us. I too was a boy scout. I was only in for a few years but the memories and lessons learned have stayed with me.

God bless,

Tom

Holy crap, is that 55 merit badges??

I got my Eagle Scout when I was 18... It was down to the wire!! hehehe

I say we have a DHBP Eagle Scout hunt down in FL with Hitch!!! hehehe

That is a bunch of Merit badges, way more than I had, and he's still sportin the life badge on his uniform. So Pat, how many Merit badges does your son have now?

Hitch

That picture was taken right before he was going for his Eagle Board. That's why he still had a Life badge on his uniform. He's 6'5" so he needed lots of merit badges to fill his sash... ;)

He's 19 now and his merit badge days are over. I hope he does the Scouting experience if he has a son someday... Continuing a legacy he started would be awesome!
