Question for computer nerds.......

I'll be nice...what kind of laptop? Ours mac has a row a keys above the numbers, one key has a little lightbulb looking thing and another has a big one...dimmer and brighter

Along the top of the keyboard there should be a series of F buttons with blue print on them. The blue print are usually control functions that are activated by pressing and holding another blue function screen. Some machines don't require you to hold the activating button down.

Some machines have buttons on the screen half.
 
crt/lcd is the one...but nothing happens when I hold it down.....which must mean I need the OTHER key...I tried the "up/down" keys but other than a loud bang and alot of smoke nothing happened....

Try looking in the display menu under the control panel. The settings maybe set for max battery life or something else, if you set it to home computer it might brighten the screen.
 
Steve - it depends on the type of laptop you are using - on my HP usinf the fn f7 will lower the brightness and the fn f8 will increase it.

What kind do you have?

it is easier to ask your buddies then read the directions.......darn buddies might not know or give bad information.....and heaven forbid to ask the wife or girlfriend....
