I have a few questions that need some answering....

1. What do i need to use(if anything) to seal my plywood sillos for V-boards?

2. What size air compressor do you guys have for you carving tools?

3. Can i please see a few photos of the interior of your layout boats? I'm looking for a few ideas on my new rebuild i've been tinkering with.

Thanks for any help fellas!

I can only answer the first question. I've used Spar varnish or Petit clear sealer to seal my plywood sleds. Seems to work OK. The main thing is to prime with a pretty good primer though. I like Fresh Start by Ben Moore. Also, be sure to cover them with a tarp at the end of the season. The rain and sun will do a number on them.

I just painted mine with FME, making sure to soak the ends well with paint. They are about 6 years old now & show no sign of rot.

What do you need a compressor for ? Airbrushing? I have a 5hp 60 gallon in my shop and a smaller contractor Hitachi in my garage. You just need a regulator and a water trap/filter and hose that has never had airtool oil run through it. They only take like 10-15lbs of pressure.

Lee, He is asking about air driven rotary tools as opposed to electric driven. I use air driven because thats what I already owned.

Then he needs to see what the tools need for cfm and buy accordingly. I know my 5hp upright won't run a 4" grinder more than a 1/2 minute.

Chris-

Let's see some pics of this layout project you have in the works.

I will take some pics when i get home and post them up later. I'm truly excited about this boat, it will be so terribly effective in my area that i almost feel it will be unfair. LOL

I seal my luann silhouetts with spar prior to painting, not 100% convinced its necessary, but, it sure doesn't hurt!!!!

+1 on the layout photos.........

Great looking scoter silos Josh. I started some of those with a buddy. Had the spreader bars made up and some 1/4" ply to make the silos from but needed a pattern for the bird. When I stopped by farm the next day he had them cut out painted and screwed onto the spreaders so all they needed was final assembly. Except they looked like very boxy shooting gallery ducks. I didn't have the heart to say anything, but he does ask every now and then when we are going to finish them up.
