Sinking Line

What kind of longline do you use that sinks... or at least will sink with the clips on it? 1/4" line....

Phil,

I've had great luck with "Rig-em-Rite" long lines available from Cabela's. It sinks good, and is very tangle resistant.

I got mine from Atlantic Gulf Fishing supply
The pot warp he had would float, but had another line that he recommended
Nice and stiff and doesn't tangle
I can't remember what it is called but can check when I get home

Memphis Net & Twine is awesome!....the tarred line.
I like their twine better than Atlantic & Gulf.

I just use 1/4" nylon three strand twist and dye it black. It sinks fast , it's cheap, available everywhere and works fine.

I have had good luck with line from "decoy rigs" of whiting,Indiana 219 659 8371. They have an add in the mar/april issue of Wild Fowl. Also have lots of hardware.
Bill.

Phil,
I think just about all of them will sink with the hooks on them. I use thick diamond braid from the company mentioned a few posts back. Decoy Rigs. Its stiff so it coils well in the tubs and I can leave the decoys attached to the lines.

What were you using before and why were you not happy might be a better question.

I am looking ot do a long line set with LONG droppers to run with my puddle duck set up... I DO NOT want to worry about Kodi having issues. I am SURE i am being paranoid, bu ton the river there is always slope to the droppers due to the current. Grizzly, my last dog would get hung up on the dropper due to the slope.... Grizzly didn't have near the drive as Kodi. Kodi would probably do fine, but I never want to have to get him unstuck from a longline. So I want to make the long line to sink!!!!

I rigged a bunch of divers with black 1/4 inch nylon some years back , sunk just fine but it was so soft that it tangled like crazy so I switched to 1/4 inch braided black poly. I am using ss longline clips from Lindgren Pittman and they seem to keep the poly under water. At least it doesnt seem to bother the birds. I recently had to rig some more lines and broke out my old nylon lines. Now that the nylon is old , it is quite stiff and doesnt tangle like it did when it was new. So if you have 10 years to wait the nylon works, if you want immediate gratification try the tarred line or black poly. By the way I love the smell of the tarred line, Takes me backto an earlier time! Rich

Nylon sinks, especially with the longline clips on.

And like Rich said, tar makes it stiffer.

I run 3 foot droppers on mine, and so far no problems with my dog or the long shaft outboard.

I second Atlantic and Gulf Fishing Supply. They have sinking pot warp and rope. I use their 400lb mono (4 foot droppers) with long line clips attached with copper crimps. I bought a 1000 meter coil of mono back in 05 for 40 bucks and still have most of the coil. I agree that the clips tend to hold the mainline down.

[font=Verdana,Arial,Helvetica]I have used rig em right line with 42" drops with no problems for the dog or motors.

We do use electric cord spools to store as well as set up/pick up so the fact that it may not be stiff does not make a difference.
