I primarily use natural grasses found in the marsh. Salt hay, spartina, etc. I also will use fast grass mainly on the canvas. I also 95% hunt puddle ducks, I don't think divers are as picky!

Too me a sneak boat is a dream boat and I am God willing going to build one. Thats after I am done with the boat I am building now.

I have a question that I have often thought about but never asked. Because of the nature of the sneak box being designed before outboard motors. The placement of the motor directly in front of the shooter, has any one ever shot their motor ? or heard of it ?

You get used to shooting around the motor. Some people take them off and grass the boat in, but that's a lot of work. Some other sneakboxes are designed to shoot off the bow so you don't have the motor in the way, but it is harder to pull them off the sedge this way, especially if you need to chase a cripple.

I'm sure people have shot their engines, but I don't know anyone personally who has done it.

Most of the time it isn't too big of an issue, as evidenced by the shot below.

I cover my engine with burlap as I didn't want to paint it.

Thanks guys those are some real nice looking rigs. i only got the chance to hunt out of mine once this year and just used some fast grass to hide it. now that the season is done ill have some free time to figure out how to grass it.

Bill, what year is that motor? I had one just like it when I was a kid. Bought it with my paper route money for $100.00 used. So I have to think its a late 60s model.

A sneak boat is definitely cool. I too am planning on building an oak framed cedar planked sneak boat when I finish the scull boat I am working on.
And yes Tod, I do have a camera, have taken pics, and will start posting them soon!

Here are a few of our Black Brants

They are both planing hulls but ride well in heavier seas. The BBII has a deeper draft of 11" and is run with a 35hp 2 stroke. The BBIII drafts 7 3/4" and is run with a 25hp 2 stroke. Both are great designs and perform well. If your looking to get into some shallower water the BBIII would be the way to go and it plans of well with 2 men, dog and gear with only a 25hp motor. WOT on the BBIII is about 23 - 24kts and is a nice stable shooting platform and ride.

Phil, its a 1963 3HP. Starts first or second pull even on the coldest of days. I don't go very fast but I don't care...I think it looks cool haha.
