Last night at around 10:00 pm I was offered, and I accepted a position within the 3M Company. I'll now be working in the newly formed Renewable Energy Division (RED) working closely with our Sales force, internal 3M product supply divisions and our factories around the world. Not my ideal job but a job with a compnay that I have been with for almost 25 years. With the economy the way it is, I feel very blessed to have found another position in less than 50 days. I think I worked harder to find a job than I have ever worked at my previous job.
My plans are to see where this goes? I made a promise to stay a certain amount of time and I'll honor that promise. What I did learn going through this experince is to be prepared for anything. I also learned that there is a world outside 3M employment as I met with many great companies and plan to keep looking outside the company for that job I really love. My loyalty to 3M has been lost going through what I have and if I find that perfect job outside of 3M after a year, I may consider leaving. I can't believe I even wrote that. I'm a 2nd generation Wollner to work/have worked at the company and it is a part of many years of my families lives. I can't look at the company going forward and feel the same way.
I also learned that there are many great people left in this world, many on this site. The outpouring of support and the amount of help people provided to me during this time can't be described. I had people I didn't know from Adam bending over backwards trying to help me find a position within 3M and outside 3M. I never sent my resume outside the company but was brought in for quite a few interviews from places and with people I never met. Companies that I have worked with on past projects offered me jobs, real jobs. And so on and so on.... It is not that I'm some great worker or anything cause I'm not. I have always tried to treat people right and do right by them. I have no doubt this got me some of the support I saw. It is truly humbling.
Anyway, thanks again to everyone here for the advice and words of encouragement, it means more than words can express.
