Well I guess a puppy could be classified as Duck Related if you decide to train it to retrieve. So some puppy pics will be included.

Took a walkabout with Chip and Habi at my side two days ago. The clouds are the remnants of the storm that hit California so hard just recently. Some areas of the state received some good and much needed rainfall however we only got 37 drops.

Some of my white racing homers had already been out for their morning flight.

You will notice that I sometimes take pictures of clouds. They are just unusual here since most of the time it is "severe clear".

My two partners. Habi needed to get out of the house and away from her pups for a while.

I found another place to cut firewood. Unfortunately the land owners had a private contractor come in with a huge crawler/grabber type machine and pull out the trees by the roots then place them in windrows. Now there are 50 acres of trees and it looks like another jungle. I was able to find the base of the trunk in the pile behind the mule, cut off the root ball area, then pull the tree out to safely cut it up.

I had to hire this character to operate my Mule.

Al,great pics as always. They are some great looking pups! All black out of a yellow,I presume the sire is black. That's a fun age to watch them develop and start to explore. The country you live in is beautiful as well. Thanks for sharing.

Good Stuff! - Some of the clouds look as they are sweeping the land... Great looking pups! Wish I lived closer, I'd come and get one. My son and I made a deal the other day that I would get him a pup - IF he read 2 training books. He was excited and has already finished the first one -"Training Retriever for Marshes and Meadows" - James Spencer - - - I'm afraid, I should have told him 4 books...(he's a book worm anyways..hehe) so to say the least I will be on the look out for his first pup...

Thanks for sharing as always - Vic

Al, that is just some cool stuff. I was hoping you might have gotten some good rain out of that system. Bummer.

I'm so glad I got to see my pup at that age. Its a real pleasure to see pups grow.

Al, that pic of Chip just sitting near the camera made me think of just reaching out and scratching his head and ears.
That tree trunk laying behind the Mule could make some interesting decoys.
Thanks for the pics.

Steve,
Habi's pedigree is half yellow and half black. With Chaco being chocolate, it made sense that there could be all blacks. I was hoping for a chocolate or two but no such luck.
Glad you liked the pictures.

Just be very thankful that your son enjoys reading, Victor. Make sure he reads, "Where the Red Fern Grows", by the way.
The little tykes have the hypodermic needles beginning to push through. Won't be long when mom begins to let them know that it hurts when they bite down.
We don't get many clouds around here and when these came in I ran for the camera.

Hi Tim,
To the south and north of us they received some good rains so I'm happy for them. It was a very long time since any precip was received.

You are so right about being able to witness pups growing up. Bev and I sure do enjoy it. Just a few minutes ago, one of the males was the first to climb out of the whelping box with the small door in it. It gets quite chaotic around here when they all figure out how to do that. That definitely means that by Saturday or Sunday they will be out in the kennel for sure. It sure will be quiet in the house.

Kevin, there is no doubt that Chip would have loved that. He knows where to sit in the blind for that treatment!

If you could find a block of wood that large it would be amazing. Normally there are lots of splits and or burls in the wood. By the way, it is very dense---more so than oak with about the same BTU rating or a touch better. It burns hot and has very little ash left over.

wis boz, the larger branches sticking out are the easy ones. Then after they're cut is when I need to hook up chains to drag out the trees if possible. Since they are in windrows it makes it rather easy. Once one is out the others are easier to get to. I've taken 5 cords out in the last 12 days of being out there. Too bad I can't drive my truck down there.

Hey Cas, I appreciate the comments. We live quite close to town. Socorro is right at the base of that large mountain in the 4th and 5th pictures. It is only 6 miles away. However you don't have to go too far to where one of the school districts has a 4 day school week just because the bus routes are so long and the ranchers' kids have so far to get to where the bus meets them.
Bev and I really enjoy this area and the people. Ever since I left Anchorage, AK back in 1974, I have lived in the country so that I could raise pigeons.

Good practice for Habi, also. She has an extremely soft mouth. Bev saw her coming from the loft area where she had caught it. Then Habi came to the house and waited for me to come get the bird. When I took the bird from her, all I had to do was release it and it flew back to the loft.

Al-the pigeons look like a fun hobby. How did you get involved with that? Great landscape pics as always.
