As usual, I have had a grand time hunting with Steve...it was a most outstanding adventure to WA, with great weather, delicious food, lots of birds and fun filled days.

We started the trip heading out to East WA to hunt with a friend of his, Don, for the pheasant opener. Don is a great guy too and I thank him for hosting us as well.

We had to stop for some fall color pictures along the way, do a little sightseeing...

We finally met up with Don and Aspen (his dog) and got into some hunting.

Sunday he had to leave early, but he was nice enough to show us a few spots we might try...

and it did produce a nice pheasant and lots of quail...

From Don's place, we headed South a bit to go try for some grouse, of course stopping to sight see a bit as well

This was the only real picture from our grouse hunting. The birds just were absent from the area we were hunting...

but that's ok because there were plenty of other birds to hunt as well

In one day I managed three "firsts"...first limit of pheasant, first quail and first hun

and indeed that was a very good day for us

We finally did manage to get into a covey of quail that would cooperate and scatter like good quail...

There are more pictures, but I still need to go through them...

It was a grand adventure and I had an absolute blast, have managed to fall in love with something to spend even more money on and can't wait to do it again....

Dani,

You got some great memories there. Glad you had fun......and back in time to switch gears for the waterfowl season in a couple of weeks.

It was 75 here today with a lovely south wind and clear skies. No gators here but then again NO DUCKS either. Iowa Pheasant is open and I may have to switch gears and follow your lead.

Hey Dani,
That was quite a hunt. Nice memories and some firsts for you. Congratulations. I sure enjoyed the photos especially the one of pheasants. It has been almost 50 years since I last shot one. My favorite shot is the one with the old wagon wheel. Fantastic.l

Dani,
that looks like a real Western Adventure. I guess you have to buy a nice break action 20 ga now....

That guy sure knows how to find good hunting spots with old farm machinery. A great bag of birds for the upland.

I am thinking you guys had to do some walking on this trip. What a location. Did you run just the one dog? Must have been a workout.

Great pics. Dani, Thanks for posting them. Did ya have any of them Chinese cock birds come boiling out from under your feet? Gives the old ticker quite a twitch doesn't it?LOL Looks like a good time was had by all. I hope ya have as good of duck season as well.

Thanks y'all! We did have a good time and yup Anthony, Steve is doing well.

Bob, except for the two days we hunted with Don who brought Aspen, Mike was the only dog we used. He was beat up and very tired by the end of the trip. He got hit by barbed wire early in the trip on his leg and it just got worse looking as the trip progressed. His nose and eyes got tore up pretty badly too. But his leg hurt me just looking at it. That must be some great smell for dogs to put up with that kind of "abuse" to continue chasing them day after day through star thistle and barbed wire and all sorts of other stuff like that.

This was early in the trip

Dennis, I didn't almost step on any pheasant...quail yes (in fact I almost landed face first on one as I was climbing a hillside to go kick a bush and lost my footing as one flushed from under me and landed right on the bush)...but the pheasant were more than happy to jump up before I got too close. But lordy my heart did get moving when it happened...

Kris, good luck with the bandtails and grouse. I know I need to go back to chase grouse and chukar. As well as go back for more pheasant and quail and huns and ducks and......

Thanks again y'all

Dani

Looks like a top-notch trip, but I would expect nothing else given your host.

Didja see any Spruce Budworms?

Didn't really need to Tod. All we would need to do to prove something scientifically would be to state, and do so repeatedly, "It's on the net, if you aren't so stupid you can't find it." Then wait for someone to quote a 20 year old non-peer reviewed report. Who needs to search out "the truth" when that technique worked once before with a known scientist?

A couple more photos

Gorgeous pictures Dani!! Glad you had a great time. You gonna be able to make a trip up here this year?

Great stuff. Those last three are really cool.
How many times did you have to stop at old barns and farm machinery for pictures? I've heard he has a tendency to do that.
