Source for leaded longline?

Hi Gents,

Looking to switch over all of my longlines to leaded line. I like the idea of stiffer line. Wondering if anyone can recommend a place to order it and what diameter they have found works best.

Thanks,
Paul and Canvas

Paul,

I've never heard of lead filled long lines nor why they would be of any benefit. For stiff braided long lines call Bob at Decoy Rigs, Whiting, IN and have him send you a few samples with his catalog (he does that anyway). His 1/4" diamond braid nylon long line is all I use for long lines. His number is (219) 659-8371

I have been considering changing over to lead core mainlines also. I hunt the Columbia river and bays on the coast. I think that the heavier line will keep the droppers more vertical in the current so there is less chance of the dog getting hung up. Pretty much everywhere I hunt is tidal so on a dropping tide no matter how tight you get the mainline it will loosen up.

I'd try SNL Corp., Atlantic and Gulf Commercial fishermans supply and Memphis Net And Twine. By the way Memphis has Camo Neoprene Gauntlets for $16.05/ pair

I looked up Memphis. They offer 3/16 thru 5/16 inch diameter. Price varies a lot. Thoughts on what diameter works best?

Also, is leaded line very stiff? My impression is yes, which will help avoid tangles and knots.

Thanks much-

If you go to ebay and type antenna rope in; black dacron comes up. It does not tangle, it sinks and the long line clips do not slide on it. You can get any size and it comes in large spools.
Good luck- Tom

Tom,

That Dacron line looks great, I hope I can remember "antenna rope" when I need more line.

Thanks,

Being in Franks back yard, so to say, I've happily used a bunch of his product but never have I seen a good open water sinking braid from Frank. Is it new? For my droppers I use his military cordage and it's great, but he's never had anything in the 3/16" to 1/4" dia range. I do like his OD & Brown shock cords and I have a couple 100-ft OD 3/8" lines from him that I use for anchor rodes. All good stuff. What I'm trying to say is if he has a good long line I'd be happy to use it, it's just that he hasn't had it before. Please tell me about it.

Scott
