I recently got an AA Blackjack and trying to figure out what kind of blind to do for it. For most of my hunting in Kentucky it will be bigger water shoving up into banks. For a couple other places I hunt in Ohio it is wide open marsh, mostly smartweed and Bidens spp. (stick tights) that has some clumps of cattail and buttonbrush. I thought about doing flip doors, but I think they are going to be so big that they will present issue in terms of being to wide.
My biggest question about spray dodgers (I like the ones that are on the Estuary, I think I can make them look like a muskrat mound) is do ducks spook off the black hole created by the opening? I made a crude one on my Momarsh last year and it seemed birds would flare when incoming. Perhaps I just need to think a little more about boat placement in relation to decoy placement and wind direction. I would like to be able to place the boat in smartweed stands (that are only about a foot in height) which would break up the boat's outline, and then have the dodger be brushed in such a way as to mimic a rat house.
Last question is what is the preferred fabric for construction of the dodger?
