well i have been looking for a big water boat for a while as most of you know ,,well it all fell into place this past weekend i drove 4000 km total trip
to get another item scratched off the bucket list.
the new to me is a 22 starcraft with a 115 evenrude outboard...
the previous owner had done a great retrofit for open water fishing which will configure to my needs for seaducking im sure..

we had 2 close calls in our whirlwind trip thru a winterry blast that dumped 30 cm snow on the eastern end of canada which we started our trip out in ....
down to 30 km an hour driving in 4 wheel drive ,it snowed all the way from novascotia to the other side of quebec,,,ontario no snow to be found ...
we went sideways one time on a hill so that was the first close call and the other was a friendly cow moose on the way home came to the roadside to say hello and scare the crap out of us man you would think on a snow covered ground in a full moon with high beams on you would of seen her before she was on the shoulder of the road...goshtly appearances like that pump up the heart rate for sure...in the middle of the nite ,we had all 6 eyes on the road after that...

2 days one way and 2 days the other

we did stop at bass pro shop where to much money was spent but i finaly got a rainsuit for makayla.....in camo mind you

so here she is boys she is in need of a name so if you have any ideas let them fly mind you they have to be half cival..lol

Looks like a new truck too! That boat should be great - people love those hulls.

Shermie,
name is easy. Makayla.

Glad you made it home in one piece. Had one like that in PA one time. Ice and dark and an F250 sideways on the hill with the speedo still at 55! Puts everyone on edge.

Nice hull.

Are there just no hulls close to you our was it the deal that made you take the long drive?

Superstition states that you are not supposed to change the name of a boat. Not sure why though...

She looks like a good'er, plenty of room! That drive sounds like it was hell glad to hear it went smooth enough.

thanks fellas, the reason i travelled is 3 fold no big aluminium hulls here for half the price, since i was a newbie here i watched other fellas grab one of these ol`girls and transform them into fine fishing and hunting rigs ,id love to have one of those 30,000$ boats but there is no way to ever get it on my pay grade....so doing this makes it happen alot quicker.plus the fact that we can drag a tube or wake board is alot of summer fun at our local lake,

ive had a few to many close calls trying to hunt the big water around here at times ,or days i could of went out with a boat like this ....i stayed on shore and watched the ducks out where i should be...and since im getting older i dont like to hunt alone and have a few buds that are willing to go and have a few laughs shoot a few ducks and have a good day...

My daughter is 9 and i thought it would be a way for her to be with me safely out on the water inland or off shore. She has gotten to many "not to days" its to rough or the weather is to bad etc and im fearing she is leaning away from hunting and fishing so i hope this helps her see the fun in going with her dear ol`dad before im to crippled up to take her and have to sell all the gear if she has no interest in doing it...realy fellas this is the main reason .....some daddy daughter time out in the great outdoors is what im realy after....

And its started all ready boys ,after supper i was going out to put the cover back on it and she says wait for me ill help and help she did.....im a happy man ....its zero here in F minus 22C....snowsuit and my little helper was up on the deck pullin and grabbin the cover into place...insert a big ol` smile here.....
sherm...

I hadn't read down to Bob b's post, but had already highlighted and copied for pasting "makayla".
Great name for that beast of a boat.
Best - Paul

Jon there was no name on her anywhere and being an east coaster we name our boats so with the seacrh for a name
Makayla is high on the list,Duchess, and daddies girl ,or girls...[ we lost twin baby daughters a while back]...
i imagine by summer time when i can paint something on it we will have a name figured out...

thanks again fellas only guys like you understand these mile points in our outdoor lives. Just a boat to some no big deal, but to others who have been using small boats in big waters all there lives ,this boat means safety to me alot less chances of bad things happening...when out there and the seas or weather craps out on ya you have alot better chance to survive in this boat...ive been in 20 foot plus waves in a 14ft with alot of bailing going on ...it has never happened again but ive never been out there since....

Good luck with your new toy. I have a 17ft Starcraft and plan to turn it into a duck boat so look forward to see how you rig that "baby" for hunting.

Shermie, there is nothing in this world that will wake you up quicker when you happen to see a moose sharing the highway with you. Congrats on that new acquisition. Looks like you and the family will be looking forward to this summer and fall. Best of luck. Glad you got home safely.

Nice boat! Why don't you buzz on down through the Bay of Fundy and then across the Gulf of Maine for a visit next season?

Maine tradition for commercial fishing boats is that they are named after women in the family, often more than one. For example, the Jessie-Marie, after someone's daughter and wife, or two daughters. What's you wife's name? Maykala-_______.

I suspect the naming after the wife is partly to limit criticism over boat purchases . . . . and this can be a good idea.

You can go overboard on this, though. A high school teacher of mine bought a boat and let his wife name it. Forever after his boat was "Knit-More", because she said she couldn't afford to buy clothes and would have to "knit more if we're going to make the payments on that damn thing".

Congrats on your new craft shermie! Where in Ontario did you find her? A big plus would be that boat has never seen salt water. Can't wait to see the transformation.
