The woodrow saga solved

After the auction for woodrow was shut down by an individual named Chieftain with his $500 bid nothing was heard. Who is this Chieftain? No one had a clue.
This weekend we celebrated my son's birthday and during the evening meal my son left the table and set a large box in front of me. It looked like I had seen it before but asked him what it was. He said it was a gift for me and to open it and did I remember what his nickname was. For years he had been called Chief with the exception of one exBadger basketball player, who called him Chieftain. Not connecting I opened the box and found the famous WOODROW with the journal and the pictures . I almost fell off my chair with surprise! A picture was taken at that moment and when I learn how to post a picture you'll see it. My own son had outbidded everyone to make sure it came to me. How about that for a son! The reason it took so long to present it was my wife and I were in Cancun.
Woodron will sit next to a decoy my dad and I made in 1938 that sits on the mantle on our down stairs fireplace. It will rest there during the off season and will be hunted this coming season. Dave Sikorski I thank you for your great idea injecting a spark especially to my season and Eric Patterson and your great web page.
Our son would like the standard duck mount to go to some Wisconsin youth, a boy or a girl getting their first duck. If you Wisconsin hunters would help us find one that would finish the Woodrow saga and would be a great finish.
By the way the box that woodrow traveled in from Maryland, to Iowa, to Wisconsin, to Michigan back to Iowa, then off to California, returned to the midwest to Kansas, then to Alabama, two Florida sites and then to Oregon where Dave Parks finally shot 4 drake woodies over woodrow tells it's own story and won't be destroyed.

I see the nut didn't fall far from the tree...You both are a class act. This has been one of the coolest things I can remember happening here and to have you end up with Woodrow and your son donating the mount to a youth..well..you guys are ALL RIGHT in my book!

That's really great and by the way...Happy Birthday!

Take care,

Ed L.

There is no one I would have rather seen end up with Woodrow. Enjoy him Wizboz!!

Boz, congrats on being the proud owner of Woodrow. What your son did, tells me a lot about his upbringing. You and your son are an inspiration to us all. There's some young Wisconsin hunter out there, that will be very happy soon.

It's been a while since a post has given me the goosebumps.....this one sure did? You must be a proud dad to have such a thoughtful son.

I've been patiently, but anxiously waiting for you to get back from Mexico and break the news.

I got the PM from Eric maybe 2 weeks ago and couldn't have been happier with the outcome.

You deserve Woodrow as much as anyone Jim and I hope your next hunt with him is better than last years.

Thanks for a great start to my Monday.

What a great ending to Woodrow's journey!!!
I was hoping that he ended up with a "regular".

if you are going to donate the mount to a young person - may i offer you this link to "Benefits for Kids" or B4K as we call it --- it is a non-profit organization that grants outdoor wishes for terminally ill kids --- they take the kids on hunting/fishing trips and usually provide the child with a mount of his trophy --- it is a great organization, founded by a man who lost his daughter, a daughter he hunted with and it was her wish that he keep hunting with other kids - so he founded B4K

they provide trips to kids from all over the country - the contact above is al baggett, v.p. of the organization - if you'd consider donating your mount of a duck and if they have a "wish kid" who wanted to duck hunt - it could be a win-win-win for you - B4K- and a child. al can provide a better history of the organization and its goals if you think you'd be interested - tell him "elk tooth" told you about the group

thanks for allowing me to soap box this organization and cause

geo.

p.s. - congrats on raising a son who would do such a thing for his father - you should be very proud!

Very nice! Woodrow really liked the weather in Florida. If he wants to visit again let me know and I will take him hunting ... you could go too. If you would like the pics from his visit, give me your e-mail and I will send them to you.

Congrulations, Happy Birthday, May you have many more.

Being a kid is relative, Some people call me an old Fart but I'm a kid at heart. If you find it difficult to find a kid for Woodrow. Well.............( ; )

Pete:
It was my son's birthday and with the gift of Woodrow it was more like my birthday. We were hoping some of you Wisconsin hunters could find a deserving young duck hunter for the mount. No one in your area?
