Thomas and Ben caught a biggun

As I walked in the door tonight I was greeted with an ecstatic Thomas. He and his buddy Ben went to the pond down the street after school to do a little fishing. I think I learned a lesson from them tonight because I had all but given up on that pond for catching fish. These two 7 year old are more patient than I and it paid off for them big time. Ben hooked it and Thomas landed it. "It was like one of those deep sea fishing shows dad." Haven't weighed it but its somewhere around three pounds. Not bad for a couple boys doing it all on their own with a jig and a spinning reel.

That's a pretty nice fish you got there. I went fishing for three hours yesterday and never had a bite. What color of jig were you using? Do you go fishing often?
 
You have to teach him how to hold that fish. I taught both my son, my daughter and my Dad. Thumb in the lip, other hand under the tail and hold him way out in front of your chest for the camera.
He's got the smile down.

In the pic above his hands got tired so he grabbed it with both. I'll have to remeber the tails up part of the pose.

I'll start fishing the Chesapeake soon and you can bring your Dad up here and give him some fishing lessons. I buy a license that covers everyone on the boat annually so you don't have to worry about buying a license. I even have a life preserver that will fit you.

You and Ben did some good fishing and I bet you'll want to go back to that pond and try it again huh?
