Truck tires?

What kind of tires do you run on your truck? I'll need a set in the spring. I'm thinking of BFG All Terrain KO's. Any body run these? I have the BFG rugged trail's on now they are O.K. but they seem to crack after a couple years. I don't want nothing to noisy, 99% of my driving is on road but more than one Farmer has pulled me out with his tractor. One Farmer last year got his tractor stuck pulling me out and had to get a bigger tractor. What a way to meet someone! oops.

The BFG All Terrain KO's are good, I've had them on two of my trucks. I recently got the General Grabber AT2's for my Nissan because they didn't make the BFG All Terrains in my size. Similar tread patterns, but the Generals are cheaper and supposedly a better tire than the BFG's. This is my third winter with the Generals and they're still working well. I do take them off for the summer and replace them with my old lower profile tires, saves gas and wear. You will get a little noise out of either tire, but nothing excessive.

Never did like the BFG Rugged Trails.

I just put on a set of Cooper AT3's after some good recomendations from friends and such. handled the snow better than the firestones that were on it. 20" wheels makes the price nice and HIGH! lol

I absolutely love those tires(had them on 2 trucks), they are perfect for what I do and last forever. I sold my Tacoma last week with 98K on it and the BFG AT KOs that I put on at 24K miles still had life in them. I can't believe it, but lots of life at 75K, starting to look a little worn, but very legal and will be for quite a while. Most of my driving is on road, but I love how they chew up the snow, slush and ice on the road and boat ramps. I do no heavy mud driving, but off road, gravel, and snow they are a great tire. They will go on the Tundra when the Rugged trails give up the ghost (I'm kicking myself for not having the dealer switch them out). Very quiet tire given how aggressive.

I put them on the T-100 as a result fo advice I got here years ago.

I also have had great luck with the Goodrich AT's. They really do last a long time and they are great in the snow, they clog up a bit in the mud but for an all around tire it's hard to beat them. They also have a 3-ply sidewall which makes them more durable and puncture resistant. They are currently on both my truck and the family SUV.

Cooper AT3 50,000 mile wear rated . And they are a little cheeper. The BFG don't have a 50,000 mile tread wear rateing

I had Coopers on my 4Runner that lasted 60,000 miles....I was quite happy with them

I put Michelins on my FJ that will need to be replaced this year probably that have 68,000 miles on them. Not looking forward to that bill this year....

My last set of BFG AT KO's lasted 60K before I needed to replace them. They had thousands left if we werent headed in to the winter.
Pull my boat out of the water on some Icy and steep ramps. Great off road. But I dont drive in deep gumbo mud.Very little road noise. ONLY AT tire that has the severe winter driving rating.
I drive a half ton quad cab GMC and tow a trailer a LOT.
After looking at the rest, I bought them again.

Cooper ST Had 265's on my 01 FRam.. Got 63,000

1st set on my 94 Ram was 54,000 and I have 28000 on this set. These are 285's

Rich,
I will have to buck the tend on this one. Tried the "Baja Tested" BFG ATs KO on my old 4 Runner a couple of years back. I had poor results in the snow and ice. I think they are good looking, quiet enough and are good mileage tires, however I had two different tires develop slits on the inside sidewalls.

After much deliberation, I am running Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo2 on my 2001 F150. I wanted a good all around tire that performs in the snow that runs quiet. Good results so far, but with 30,000 not the same traction in the snow as I had even last year. I wouldn't recommend it as a mud tire.

I have heard that the Toyo Open Country M/T is good tire for mud and is suppose to run quiet, however they are not cheap. Not sure how they are in the snow, but if you had them siped that might help. Definitely deep lugged. The best snow tire I ever ran was a now extinct Armstrong Norseman (ran True Trac also). Dick Cepek Radial F-C II has similar tread, but there was a few poor reviews that put me off.

I was just thinking of a new set of tires after I had an issue last weekend getting out of snowy ramp. I probably should have chained up since there about 8" of snow on an iced ramp. On the way home, saw bad collision on an icy strip of 2 lane. I came home and warned my wife to prepare for a new set of studded snow tires on rims for next winter. There is nothing like running a set of heavily siped studded winter tires for snow traction, can't say they are quiet though.

Checked out prices on tires from your link, thats alot cheaper than on our side of the border. I might have to go to Michigan when I do need a set. I guess there is no perfedt tire for every aplication. Some provinces are making snow tires mandatory. Just put the wifes on her car last week and they do make a huge difference.

I looked at the Cooper AT3's but they weren't aggressive enough for my liking. I had a set of Cooper Zeon LTZ's on my truck and got about 50k miles out of them. More aggressive tread and they were pretty darn quiet. They were the most affordable tires for a 20" rim that I could find that were still a fairly aggressive all terrain tread.

Snow tires do make a big difference, people don’t realize the difference until they’ve had them. Much better than the "All Season" tires (they should be called "three season" tires). I’ve always put snows on my wife’s cars and then her mini van. Last year she got a new all wheel drive SUV so we didn’t get snow tires for it. She’s already commented on how the tires aren’t as good in the snow as the ones she had on her 2WD mini van.

Not quite true, the General AT2 tires are also RMA & RAC rated for Severe Snow Service. I put 61k on my last set and they compare to the BFG AT KO's (I had this tire also in the past) in traction and road noise at a much lower price.

Thats good to know on the Generals. I wasnt able to find another.

As far as the Toyo Mud terrain, I have been told by a friend it wasnt a very good snow tire, and it did make quite a bit of noise on the freeway. He didnt buy them again........

8" of snow, I wouldnt have to chain even on a steep ramp pulling my 20 foot welded sled (heavy)out. 12-14" of wet snow I would have to chain. And depending on how iced up the ramp is from someone in front of me.Not saying the KOs are the best, just my experience.

+2 on the zeon LTZ's second season with them. very quite and great on ice and snow. 20" tires installed for under 1200.00 tought to beat for the price

Here's a shot I like. Not much snow, but there was ice. That's my old S-10, sold it to a friend. He was using the plow to push a large sheet of ice out away from the launch. There were BFG All Terrains on it.

Rich,

I have had BFG 's . I have found for the money the General Grabber AT2 were a very good deal. I have them on my Tahoe and they perform great and are not noisy on the road. I'm on highway roads and gravel every day. I have 30k mikes on them and they look like they have another 30k+ to go.

Kelly Fierce M/T's. They clean out the mud and snow. I have had bfg's. I prefer these so far.( 2 yrs)

John
