It was a decent day. Four and half inches of rain yesterday raised the water level of one of my hunting spots. Course the tornados did a bit of damage to houses and prevented some people from getting down to the boat ramp. So today had lots of water, strong winds from the west and dropping temps (although it wasn't terribly cold...I only had on two layers of clothes ).
I ended up with three birds, but should have had more...I should have limited out but my shooting was horrible!!!!!!! I missed every easy shot in the book! I made some good shots but went through too many shell.
Anyhow, I clipped a drake woodrow and he went down. I marked him, pulled the boat over the dyke so I could go get him and crawled through the woods/swamp to approximately where he was. I stood on a dead stump/dirt clump thingy to get a slightly better vantage point for hearing and hopefully seeing my bird. I heard him not too far away from me whistling/calling and it was getting closer to me so I just stood there very quietly waiting for my little buddy to come into visual contact with me. Next thing I know, I'm seeing something else moving through the woods...very quiet like and it's a bobcat!!!!!! He was so close that I could have taken him down with a load of #4 shot to the head/neck/spine area!!! I am down wind of it so it can't scent me, and I'm staying very still so it doesn't see me. I watch the cat...my woodrow has gone very quiet and next thing I know, I see the bobcat take off with my woodrow!!! The punk!!! It was irritating, but still very very cool! Bobcat is legal, but the rule of our house is you kill it, you eat it.....I don't know about eating bobcat.
I still went home with two birds though. At the boat ramp, THE MAN checked my license and made sure I had steel shot and had a plug in, ladidadida....I told him about my bobcat woodduck and he asked me why the heck I didn't shoot it? hah! that sure would have scared the kids at the boat ramp....girl comes back with a boat load of duck stuff, dead ducks and a big dead bobcat. He was one of the biggest bobcats I've ever seen.
Just had to share! Have fun y'all!
