Well it's official guys (kinda duck related)

I signed my 4 year contract with the army last friday and i'll be leaving for basic training during the middle of my duck season, talk about horrible timing. Luckily this will be the week after i get back from hunting seaducks with the Pitboss. I'll be at Fort Sill in Oklahoma for 9 weeks then i'll be headed to Fort Sam Houston in Texas for medic school for 16 long weeks. I'm excited and looking forward to it but i'm not looking forward to leaving everybody behind. In other DUCK related news, me and some friends went out for the teal opener down here in Alabama and managed to bag 24. Best teal hunt i have ever been on, we were split up into two boats with my boat being beat to our first spot so we went to plan B. 45 mins after shooting time we had our limits and hightailed it to the other group to show them where we were so they could get in on the action. the slowly scratched out their limits as well and we were back at the truck by 0930. Great way to start off the duck season if you ask me.

Tom, good luck with basic and med school. There will be many duck seasons ahead, you may possibly be stationed in a great duck area eventually. Congrats on a good teal opener and hope your Pitboss adventure is memorable.

Tom,
Thanks for stepping up to serve your country. We appreciate your willingness to set your personal desires aside to serve the greater good. Sadly, we live in a world that needs guarding from those whose lives are miserable and want to make everyone else feel as hopeless as they do. We salute you and your comrades and we say, "Thank You!"

Tom,

I applaude your decision to join the ranks of the military. Not an easy decision for most to make, especially when our country is at war and still relying on an all-volunteer force. Enjoy your time at home prior to basic and AIT. Remember, training only lasts a short time and sooner than you think you will be at your first duty station.

Welcome to the ranks! All can serve but only a few do!

Congrats Tommy. We will definitely hunt together before you leave for basic training. THomas want to know if he can have all your duck stuff since you won't need it anymore. He also still wants to pair up with you in the meat calling comp.

By the way, total crop failure at willow point. Pump broke and they couldn't get the water out last spring. Planted it way late and then the tropical depression we just saw flooded the fields and drowned the young plants. Talked to biologist Judd Eastwood and it is 100% loss of crops over there. Phase II did good. Phase I will be a bust. Dike at Greentree is still broken and it doesn't look like they will fix it this year as Montgomery pulled them off the repair project to make roads on a new Forever Wild lands that is for deer hunting. Pretty sorry the way Montgomery throws all their resources at deer while waterfowl sucks hind tit.

Tom,
Congrats on the enlistment. I remember when I left for boot camp 3 days before christmas. My time in the Navy was a great time. You will make friends for life. Good luck. Congrats on the teal opener great way to start out.

I was going to say that's a great time of year for both Sill and Sam but then I noticed you are a Bama guy so
the heat shouldn't bother you. Time will fly by so enjoy the adventure.
Thanks for your service, John (USAR retired)

Tom,
thanks for your service. We are all indebted to you for your commitment to this country. The work will be hard and we all will be pulling for you.
Keep us posted as you go.
Enjoy the teal opener. Sounds like Thomas is looking to make a run at your gear for a year or two. Better keep a close watch on it.

Thanks everyone for your support, it really means a lot to me. I would have to agree though that Thomas has got an eye out for my stuff, i'll be lucky if my boat is still in the backyard by the end of my first 4 years, Thomas should have his driver's license before too long. John i'm not too worried about the heat. One good thing about the time i spent as a volunteer firefighter in Alabama was that it made just the regular hot summer's a cakewalk. Nothing like coming out of a trailer fire in August to take your jacket off so you can "cool down". I'll definately try to keep everybody posted on how my season goes and updates on my training when i can.

Good luck and thanks for your service. Ft. Sam is pretty nice once you are able to get away from your instructors and enjoy it. The riverwalk downtown is pretty nice and has alot to do around it. Glad you guys are getting some birds, i'm only a couple hours away and we don't have anything.
