Just wondering wat species everyone chose for their first ever decoy? Mine was a common merganser, that was the only pattern I had at the time.

First several decoys...Bluebills. I was taking a class from Ron Snow who's Dad used to carve with Ben Schmidt. Great traditional lineage for this area. I still have my #1, #2 & #4 decoys at the house. ;)

In 1955, I bought six Herter pintail decoys. Sure wished that I still had them. That Herter catalog was my bible for years. Packed full of goodies. I think they were located in Waseca, MN.
