Winchester Super X2 question

Its been a good gun to me. Im hard on stuff and i have no complaints. Ive had one for about ten years now and the only problem i had was the spring in the stock got rusted up and it wouldnt cycle. I took it apart and cleaned it the best i could and havent had a problem yet . My hunting partner has an x3 and i think if i was going to buy on i would go with it . The x3 is so much more comfortable and doesnt seem as fat as the x2. Feels like a 20 not a 12. I think im going to have a stainless spring put in mine .
 
I bought one when they first came out with the X2. I had trouble with it from the time it was new. It didn't always feed a new shell from the mag. into the chamber, especially Federal shells, but all brands would fail to feed from time to time. I took it on a sea duck trip to Maine and on the first day there the wheels fell off completely. Wouldn't fire, wouldn't cycle, nothing. The gun had been cleaned right before the trip and probably had less than 1000 rounds thru it at that point. I had it worked on when I got back from Maine and it was some better. I sold the gun to a guy with the understanding that I had some trouble with it and I think he has since sold it too. In short, i was pretty displeased with the one I owned.
 
Bought one when they first came out. Cleaned regularly, it started failing to eject the spent hulls. Returned to the factory, they said everything was OK. Still jammed, traded it in on a SBE 1. Loved the way it handled and shot it well, just couldn't depend on it to cycle.
 
Have a Browning Gold Hunter and it jams like a champ. Just bought the Benelli Super Black Eagle II, Performance Shop Edition in 12 gauge/3 1/2. Have yet to shoot it but, I hear amazing things about the gun. Good luck.

Besides hunting, my son and I are avid 3 gunners. My son shoots a FNSLP, basically a SX2 with extended mag tube and different sights. I shoot a SX3 with extended mag tube. After tens of thousands of rounds neither he or I have experienced a malfunction or miss feed. Now that being said....
On the SX2 make sure you use the appropriate gas system installed to the load you select. My sons came with two, one for loads up to 1 1/4 and one for loads heavier than that. With the lighter gas system he shoots slugs, 00 buck, 1 1/8 field and 1 oz field loads with no failures. With the other 3" heavy loads are not an issue.
My SX3 eats everything previously mentioned with no effort as well as 3" heavier waterfowl loads.
I better mention that we clean out shotguns after every shoot, I know there is a growing population of shooters that do not practice this but that is their choice and a topic for another thread.
IMHO get yourself an SX2 and enjoy the upcoming season. Have fun, be safe.

Won mine & the national medallion print of the year @ the state DU convention for a $20.00 dollar raffle ticket when they first came out.

I'm tough on my duck guns & hunt mine about (50) fifty days a season.

Other than a .50 cent bushing that wore out last season that stabilizes the firing pin, it's been a great gun.
 
Thanks guys! I really appreciate the comments-positive and negative. Here is a bit more on my gun quest.

This year I've been getting serious about getting an automatic to replace my Super Nova. I'm searching for a used gun that feels good, will take 3 1/2 inch shells, and is dependable. Having watched my hunting partner with a Bennili have cycling troubles, I'm open for about any make of shotgun.

I was sold on the Beretta's, until I picked up a Super x2 at a local gun shop. Nice feel to it, cast was good, and it took 3 1/2 inch shells.

Cost is a big consideration for me, and I'm looking for a used shotgun. Some of the other make/models I've been considering are the Beretta extreama, and the 11-87 by Remington. The exteama and the super x2/x3 both feel really nice when I handle them.

It's too bad you're not local, I'd sell you my Xtrema 2. I'd like to upgrade to the new Xtreme 400. I've never had so much as a hiccup with my Beretta. I've seen Benelli's jam left and right. Not sure about the Winchester.
 
If you buy it, replace the action spring (the one in the stock) and the hammer spring. You'll notice the new action spring is much longer and heavier than the old one. The springs and shipping from Browning will be around $30. I like mine so much when the finish started wearing off the barrel (black gun) and I could see the rust form when hunting the coast, I spent the bucks to get the barrel Cerakoted. It's become my go to gun for the skeet field over my Citori as well. Shoots everything I feed it EXCEPT Remington gun club loads. How much is the guy asking?

Oh, and clean the snot out of it when you first get it. I mean clean it, then get in there again with the plastic dental pics and a good light and get into every nook and cranny in the receiver. Use Break Free to clean it, Powder Blast to remove the Break free from the moving parts and use some FP10 SPARINGLY to lube it. One drop in the action, one drop on each bolt rail, one drop between the halves of the bolt. It's probably jamming on the seller because it's DIRTY.

How much?
 
I have owned many SX2's and Browning Gold's and am currently using a Maxus, all pretty much the same gas system. I buy them used, get them running, and sell them to guys who will take care of them. I have not had one yet that I can't get running smoothly.
