Woodrow.....my HERO!

Yesterday the big pond was finally ice free and this afternoon the wood ducks started streaming back into it a few at a time. Woodrow worked flawlessly and we wound up with 4 drakes!

I think the woodies wanted to get off the river and back to the quiet pond.

I'm glad we got over this recent Ice Age we have had here the pasr month.

I decided to take no chances and broke out the Breda 12 ga. and 1-1/8 loads of #6's. Woodrow did his job and afterwards whispered to me that all that was needed was to just get him around some wood ducks.

So, Woodrow ends his first season with a bang or four. He's a bit worn from all the hunts, but will make a great addition to the lucky high bidders collection. Thank's Woodrow, Dave Sikorski and all those that were involved.

It was a great adventure and a pleasure to hunt with this fine decoy that brought so many DHBP members together. It was a wonderful idea that Dave Sikorski came up with and I hope it continues to be an annual event that will help to raise money for the upkeep of this websitew we all get so much knowledge and enjoyment from.

Great Shooting....I can't believe it took all this time to get a woody over a woody! But it was fun to be a part of it.

Good shootin Dave..maybe you should pull a feather from each of those and put them with the journal...just to prove for posterity that he actually lures woodies?

Good idea Lee, I'll pull one of those prized "lemon feathers" off each bird and tape them into the journal for the winning bidder to see. BTW your item will be mailed to you tomorrow when I go to town. I think you'll enjoy it.

Cool Dave..I was noticing the green grass ya got there..found some next to my driveway today when I was blowing snow. Been a bit nippy here the last few days...bet Anglin has 2' of snow around his house now with the lake effect we get...glad I'm a hundred miles from Lake Michigan!

Lee,

I have been watching the weather & snow in Montana via their road cams system. I can see most all of the areas we hunted last October via the road cams.

What has Judy and I laughing is how the weather has been around Miles City, Montana where we want to buy property. They have been warmer that we have been here in Oregon! They had a high last week of 57 degrees and we were 36 that same day.

Miles City has had very little snow this winter and yet western Montana has had snow ever since October when we left there.
I'm sure it will eventually get cold there before spring, but so far it's been a pretty mild winter in Miles City.

I'm with you, the only Lake Effect I want is some excellent fishing on a small lake. They can keep that lake effect snow back there!

SUCCESS!!!!!

I knew you would pull it off Dave!!

He does look a little worn out. WOW.

The jury is still out on next years species, but there will be one, that's a guarantee.

Thanks to all who participated. Stay tuned for the auction.

Man, with the varied terrain that Woodrow hunted..maybe next years should be the "King" of ducks...the Mallard! What do you think? We could have an online contest..all who want to participate in making the "traveler" would carve one and post pics and the forum could vote for the one to be sent all over the country...the others could be put in a pool to auction for the site too..maybe..??? I think you did a wonderful thing with Woodrow.

Thanks!! I figure it's the least I could do to help keep this place alive.

Lee that sounds like a great idea.

A mallard would be the obvious choice.

I was also thinking we could have two divisions, diver and puddler. Then vote. Only b/c I don't know if I could spare a mallard this year, I'm trying to build my rig!!!. :)

I am running out of time already and just started making dust for the year.

ALRIGHT DAVE! I really knew that you wouldn't let us down being the warrior that you are! So ends THE TRAVELING DECOY SAGA---WOODROW with a fitting ending of 4 drake woodies taken.
Thanks Sikorski for giving us a lot of fun with your idea and thanks Dave for finishing it off with style.

Ditto what Boz said. The perfect ending for a great idea, Dave S! I look forward to reading the journal for all of the sordid details of Woodrow's Odyssey.

Dave P, no snow on the ground here in town or the valley, but good ice on the ponds. It's too soon to hit the panic button, but I hope the spring snows come thru again this year. Holler if you and Judy are passing thru for a look-see at Miles City props.

Excellent!! Good shootin Dave. Glad to see Woodrow finally drew woody blood.

Sikorski - great idea. I hope I can persuade the next deek to pass through Ohio.

Thanks guy's. Woodrow will soon be on his way back to his maker and in a short time he will be put up for auction here on the Forum as planned.
