You guys seen this one?..

I think that is great. I hunt ducks because I love ducks. If I could keep one as a pet I would. This would'nt keep me from hunting though..............Kevin

I knew some people who had a fawn they raised. It was friendly and cute as could be...and they had to shoo it out of the way to practice with their bows.
While there are several things I hunt that I wouldn't mind as a pet I don't a duck would not be one of those.

Just goes to show how little local news I watch. Never heard of this story til now. Thanks Ed, good smile. Maybe he practices his calling in the truck???

I have actually had two ducks that were awesome. I had a hen mallard (Boomer), she was the best mouser I ever saw. she would wait for a mouse to try and sneak into the grain room and nail it. shake it like a dog and swallow it whole. The other was a hen woodie I raised from egg on. she would perch on your shoulder like a parrot and spend hours grooming your hair.

Both birds where raised and imprinted right off the bat, and I did it while I was a zoo keeper. I keep threatening to try another duck but since my wife decided we needed to live in town it probably won't happen, unless I can convince the village board that it is a parakeet.

Strange pets?
Many years ago when I lived in Delaware,
a friend gave me two tiny wild turkey chicks(long story how he got them).

I raised them in a 30 by 30ft dog pen for 3 years.
Fortuanately,by luck, there was a male and female.
Gobbles (male-naturally)and Corney.

I let them out when they were six months old
and they would come back to the pen almost every night.

I would listen to them chirping at one another and what would make
Gobbles gobble in the Spring :)
That's how I learned to call in turkeys with just my mouth.

One day I was listening to the local radio station, and the traffic reporter said:
"there's a traffic jam on Lancaster Pike caused by 2 turkeys crossing the road"

I lol and thought that must be G&B coming home to get fed :)

I had a pet duck as a little boy that imprinted on me as I was the first thing he saw when he hatched. He later grew into a beautiful greenhead. He lived a long time and I was late getting into duck hunting because of that. I don't think I made my first hunt until I was 12 if I remember right. He was a cool pet but I wouldn't get one for a kid. I don't think my dad would have let me have that duck if he had been aware of the consequences.

Several years ago , while at my trailer at the beach in Rehoebeth, a passing storm nocked two squirrels down from a pine tree, my wife & I cared for the one that survived the fall, the other died . these babies had no hair yet nor were there eyes opened .My wife feed and baithed "peanuts" that is the name we gave her. Peanuts traveld back to our wilmington home with my wife & I along with our cats {tigger & jasmin } and it was tigger who first found Peanuts and watchfully looked over and protected peanuts till my wife Barb picked her up.Peanuts grew to afull sized squirrel and made her nest in one of my old sweatters in my bed room closet. She would take naps in my shirt pocket as i watched T V, she would love to play by jumping onto a hand towel and I would swing her onto the couch and shed take a running leap back onto the towel. She ate peanuts ,grapes, kiwi, cucumbers cranberry juice and oh yes loved chocolate candy. If she heard the wrapper on the candy being opened she was so fast that she could steal it from you befor it touched your lips{thats fast}.Peanuts lived with us for 5 years traveling back and fourth to my LOg Cabin in Pa. and to the Beach. When up at the cabin in Nov. hunting season she would sleep in my pants pocket as they hung up by the wood stove. One nite I sleep thru and did not stoke the wood stove so it got very cold, as i slep i felt something between my wife and I. As i peered under the covers here was Peanuts laying on her back with all 4-s straight-up talk about impriting {that took the cake} Peanuts had her own entry door which i made and could come and go as she pleased. When she finaly ran off with her boy friend ,we only saw her on occasions{hungry}. She went on to give several births of litters ,which my wife confermed on.To end this true story with a sad note she passed on during the winter months for I had found her bony remains that coming spring under somes leaves by my back door next to the window door I made for her. She never bit me nor had any fleas, barb would use the same flea medication as the cats ,by the way she was boss over both cats if peanuts was in the living room she would shase both cats out. I really miss that darn squirrels.

Some law dog will probably say the Duck needs a safety seat. Great story and thanks for the post. Seeing that duck eat banana reminds me that my hunting bud's lab will wolf Nanners fast as you peel them for him.

Best,
Harry
