“On the Ebb” - Black duck hunting film by Field & Stream

Tim, I really enjoyed the film. I only have one McCormick decoy, but I float it on Champlain almost every hunt. Robert

    Estuary Garvey

RM, Congratulations on the boat!! I commissioned Dave to build the deck mold for the Garvey 15 in 2019. He delivered the boat in mid-2020, and I’m still thrilled with it. My boat does have plywood/dynel/epoxy floorboards in the cockpit, but he switched to all-composite soon after. Photos...

    Socks

Since I live in VT, I’m partial to Darn Tough. Can’t think of a better sock. For waterfowl, I use their OtC liner sock and their OtC hunting sock. The liners and wool socks from Schnee’s are good also. For ice fishing I rely on boot selection and a light wool hiking sock. My main boots are...

I have a lightly used pair of Sitka Zip Waders for sale or trade. Size: XXL Boot: 11 Color: Earth I’m selling because I lost weight this spring and absolutely swim in them now. Great product — purchased another pair in XL as the replacement. Worn about a half-dozen times — twice in a pit...

    Dog Vests

I no longer have the vest but I did find one a few years ago for a 34# springer. Pretty sure it was a small. The neck opening was a bit large. But, you can cut slits in the vest, take up slack and then bond with a neoprene cement. For comparison, my current Labrador is 44#, and a Rig 'em...

    AWS shedding

I had an AWS and currently have a Chessie and Labrador. I don?t recall the AWS ever shedding. If he did, it was minimal. They have hair (like a poodle) and should be groomed periodically. We rescued him, and he did not hunt. He was a terrific, funny companion. The Labrador sheds like...

14ft hawk tdb clone trying to gather info

Joe, The first "real" duck boat I gunned out of was my friend's HT 14. It was a neat boat, and, once we were ready to rig out, was very comfortable. I loved the interior shelving -- especially since slotted decoy bags slid underneath and out of the way. And, it grassed in beautifully...

The New Boat Surprise! Dave Clark Estuary 15' -Easton, MD

Congratulations, Anthony!! That boat inspired me to have Dave make the deck mold for his fiberglass garvey. Just a beautiful hull enhanced by Dave's attention to detail. Hope you and your father enjoy it for many years. Robert

Tod, I have 22 doses of rattlesnake vaccine at my vet in VT. 16 are currently spoken for. I ordered the case last year but cancelled my trip due to Covid. The vaccine expires in October, and I will be administering the doses in August. PM for details. Headed to ND, MT, and NE the third...

    1st season /new boat

With the mold finished, you can now reproduce the deck in fiberglass. The build starts by waxing the mold, spraying the OD gelcoat and laying fiberglass. I?ll only show the skin coat as the later stages (coring) would reveal where Dave hides the 2nd set of Hull ID numbers. Feel free to PM me...

    1st season /new boat

Once the plug is polished, it?s waxed (mold release), sprayed with tooling gelcoat, and heavily fiberglassed. The builders also reinforce it with coring to prevent warping. Once structurally sound, the parts are separated leaving the plug and the mold (which is a mirror image of the plug).

    1st season /new boat

I have a few photos of the build sequence I?d like to share. To build the deck mold, you start by building a plug. The plug is made of plywood and dimensional lumber. It is then faired with Duratec and sprayed with gel coat. Once the gel coat cures, it?s polished to remove blemishes.

    1st season /new boat

I own the all-fiberglass garvey. Only the removable floorboards are dynel-sheathed meranti. I echo Tom?s comments. This is a fantastic hull ? hides well and very seaworthy. A few pictures from the season: I couldn?t be happier with the boat.
