The "best" grass boat for two hunters and a dog? TDB vs DuckBoss?

I have a Scaup too. I would not consider it a grass boat as it is not a shallow hull. Not sure what Devlin specs it at, but it does have a V and is deepest in the midship.

Day dreaming - handle inside waders?

I had scheduled all this week off from work, to hunt and putz around. It is a slow time, most folks are out and not much is happening. But the fronts are rolling through with high winds yesterday and today, so I have come to work to save the vacation for better hunting weather. I love my High...

My apologies, I read the posts, but missed the "Grass Boat" in the title of this thread!

The "best" grass boat for two hunters and a dog? TDB vs DuckBoss?

Dave, In my opinion, all the options discussed would only be acceptable for me for a puddler rig. I have a 16ft Scaup, with a very large cockpit, and it is snug with 2 guys and all the decoys we haul (4dozen min). I could certainly add a dog, but to haul all this in a 13/14ft boat would not be...

12 slot decoy bag for magnums and long lines

John Bourbon had Diane make him gunnel bags that he uses for "short" long lines of puddlers She added a weight pocket on both ends. I am sure you could have her make them anyway you want them. She made me 3x3s and 3x4s and added them to her catalog. Dave Clark could also make you whatever...

What new waders are you guys using?

I have the High and Dry breathables. First pair of breathables, as I always had the Cabelas SuperMags. I still have a couple pr of the SuperMags, but have not worn them since buying the High and Dry. My only complaint they have fixed since I bought mine was how the knee patches were attached...

    Higbee Pond box

Early on, before I opened the cockpit, I did use mine to gather decoys. Sat on the deck with a kayak paddle, it did not paddle well. It has chines, and a concave hull so it towed well, but did not paddle well, though did float me just fine.

    Higbee Pond box

I really liked mine, and as I noted on FB, and posted here on DBs, made several changes to make it work better for me. I used it for taking more decoys when I had only my BBSB and wanted to layout hunt. I could fit a few more dozen decoys and once deployed, I simply anchored it off where I...

    Keel weight mold

The 2 ovals are simply poured in half a torpedo weight. There are couple sizes and can be poured to varying weight.

To Those That Participate on FB Duck Hunting Groups

Eric, I was unable to find the hunter/carvers this time. In the past, the middle school was the place for them, Veneasy, Smyzer, etc, would all be there and I always found a decoy to add to my spread. This year, they used the parking lot for parking and a bus stop but nothing else. I did...

To Those That Participate on FB Duck Hunting Groups

I was disappointed in the Waterfowl festival this yr. I had not been since Covid, but found it focused too much on drinking, and all the venues were changed and the cataloge was worthless to figure out where things were being displayed. The basement of the Elks Lodge was food, the Armory had...

To Those That Participate on FB Duck Hunting Groups

I used FB and FB MP significantly. I prefer MP to Craigslist as I can peruse the profile and determine whom I choose to reply to. The pages I follow have very little spam, and what does appear usually get removed. I admin one page myself, along with Anthony Babich, specific to South Bay Duck...

    Looking for a new boat

Mark, you are not going to find what you want that will be light enough to make that big a difference. I would suggest working on ways to overcome the challenges. Add wheels for moving, and a winch to pull it into the truck. I added a winch for the same reason, and am finding it quite useful...
