Congratulations on your retirement Larry! If you happen to pass through the Bay of Quinte area on your way to northern Ontario and would like to get in a day of diver hunting please let me know, it would be a pleasure to have you out for a hunt. All the best, Gary

    Bankes 19’ vs. 21’

For what’s its worth, with a bit of chop on LSC my Bankes Freedom starts to feel pretty small with nine dozen decoys and two hunters. If cost is not an option, nor will you be hunting it solo, I’d go bigger.

Banks Boats and Duck Water Boats

Werner, I have a 2014 Bankes Freedom and I`ve been very pleased with it. The customer service that Bankes provides is outstanding, very good experience overall when it comes to the whole purchasing process, and the fit and finish is top-notch. I mainly hunt divers on the great lakes with...

For the Lovers of Old Canadian Working Decoys

Thanks for getting the link to work Scott, I'm using an iPad and cutting and pasting links seems a bit different than on a PC.

For the Lovers of Old Canadian Working Decoys

DU Canada was recently given a collection 1000 old working birds and has teemed up with Guyette & Deeter to auction the birds with proceeds back to DUC. They've created an e-book for those interested in seeing what the collection comprises of and some histories of the men who carved them...

    June - What's on your workbench ??????

Time to get some decoys on workbench thread... Just finished refurbishing the hen bluebills in my rig. Mostly a mix of burlapped and plain Herters, plus a few corks, all with 15+ years of gunning. I really didn't see much difference in the condition between wrapped and unwrapped foam birds...

Northeast Goldeneyes (My Friday contribution for Tod)

I really don't target them, but while out hunting for bluebills I'm seeing fewer whistlers on the Canadian side of Lake Ontario, same thing with buffies. On the other hand, we certainly see way more scoters then we use to.

I've had a Freedom for two years and have been very happy with it. Great layout, well made and super customer support from the Bankes folks.

    George Warin Decoy Pics?

Do you already have the more notable decoy collecting books that cover Ontario? The books by Flemings, Crandell and Bates all have some of Warin's birds.

    Aythya affinis...

Great Thread Pat. I will add John O Cartier’s "Getting the Most out of Modern Waterfowling" chapter “Bluebills Make the Shooting” where he so a adroitly describes a bluebill hunter…” I will go to any amount of trouble to hunt these birds. I frequently endanger my happy home and my career for...
