    Opening Weekend

My North zone opener was Monday and South Zone was today. No idea why they have them just 2 days apart. I live right on the line between zones, so locally the effect is to concentrate effort on one side of the line and then shift it to the other a few days later. I haven't hunted yet due to...

    Do it all boat?

My experience with blind emergencies is that 30 minutes would be far too long to wait. ;) .

    Do it all boat?

I'm a big Sportboat fan, but comments above are spot on. It's good when I'm solo, OK with two and a light load, and would be overloaded with two and a dog and some decoys. Three people would be severely overloaded. Not saying people don't do it--just that it's not wise.

Sons first duck hunt. Long winded

Forget about anti-hunters. I once had a fellow duck hunter scull up on my spread. He was pretty well known--wrote a book about sculling boats--and a friend of the guy who let me keep my boat on the Bay. I was set up solo, boat hidden up a creek. Slow day, so I was sitting in the blind with...

Totally NDR - removing White Pine tree Sap from wooden decking

Dave is too old to appreciate the robot revolution. We have a new use for this device. https://www.consumerreports.org/home-garden/grills/grillbot-automatic-grill-cleaning-robot-review-a1170489056/

Totally NDR - removing White Pine tree Sap from wooden decking

He'll be back next fall asking how to get pine sap out of fabric. ;) In the long run, I think addressing the trees is your best bet--unless you like strong solvents applied with elbow grease. It sounded like the issue might be limbs hanging over the deck, rather than the entire tree. Maybe...

    New blog / rails

Good stuff. That Eakins picture seems familiar to me, but I don't recall seeing it since I picked up a shotgun ~20 years ago. I think I might have seen it at Boston Museum Of Fine Arts in a big travelling "American Paintings" show I went to on a high school field trip. I know I saw a bunch...

I suspect you are correct. But I worry about accepting a shifting baseline as "normal".

    Adaptive Management Report

My other AHM question is one I know nothing about--and entirely hypothetical for us in Maine as I don't know anyone who has ever shot more than one pintail in a day. I've shot 2 in the last 15 years--we just don't see them. But I am seeing a lot of chatter, including social media posts today...

    Adaptive Management Report

I agree with you both, and thought my OP made that clear. I don't begrudge Canada a higher bag limit than we get in the US. And like Steve, I am thrilled with the current 2 bird limit for blacks. What I question is the conclusion that based on evaluation of habitat conditions and populations...

    Adaptive Management Report

So having looked only at the Ex. Summary, this paragraph caught my eye, as someone who for whom black ducks are the majority of what I see once the teal and woodies mostly head south: "For black ducks, the optimal country-specific regulatory strategies for the 2026 hunting season were...
