    Spring Turkey

Living between the ocean and the Chesapeake bay, we deal with windy days (20-30mph) throughout the season. I have found that metal topped pots, long boxes and tube calls seem to cut the wind quite well. If a gobbler is looking, he will respond just as well on windy days as calm ones. The...

"A Bit of Heaven" Field & Stream Feature: Spring 2026

Great article Anthony! My first duck was a black duck as a boy over 50 years ago. I was hunting the salt marshes along the Chesapeake Bay with my dad. Really brought back memories. Still gunning coastal Va's barrier islands and bays mostly for Blacks and Brant. Really enjoyed the article.

I've always figured the later I stick it out the more likely I am to kill a bird. Every gobbler I've seen this spring was after 9:00. One of the gobblers I killed this year was at 11:10.

    Spring Turkey

This morning wrapped up my 50th turkey season with my 3rd VA gobbler this spring. It’s been an interesting one. Never heard a gobble all week while hunting. Called in 6 different longbeards and several jakes. Some strutted right in and others came slinking in. Keep after them Henrick!!

Great gobbler RM, Congrats!! Henrick, you'll find every gobbler and every day is different. Sometimes things even change on the same day with the same gobbler. Patience, perseverance and attention to detail are the keys to spring gobbler success. If nothing else, it's an amazing time of year to...

    Spring Turkey

We have over 2 million acres of public lands in my state so finding places to go is never really an issue. Next to waterfowl, it's my favorite pastime. It's the reason I bank my vacation.

    Spring Turkey

Hey RM I pretty much only chase turkeys in my home state now. We are allowed 3 tags per season. I live fairly close to 2 other states but not sure the family would like me disappearing for a month. LOL Filled my second tag yesterday. 2 big gobblers came in silently at 10:00. Only one left

    Spring Turkey

I’ve had the pleasure to hunt turkeys for many years. Even with a degree in Wildlife Management and a degree in Forestry, I still feel like I’m constantly learning and getting humbled by over grown, pea brained chickens so don't ever get discouraged. Just enjoy time spent in the woods and look...
