I have a TDB 17' Classic 1992 that's hunted 3 generations ( my Dad is the original owner) and got a new grandson who will the fourth to hunt it someday
two great moments stand out in my mind and both are from hunting with my first lab "BlackJack". early 90's
First was a late season diver hunt over a nice spread of Herter broadbills and it had been a good morning with lots of opportunities..
I was a killer back in those days and really loved to...
Yesterday I was out on the marsh alone gunning for geese and the wind was blowing quite hard out of the NW...The bottom where I was setup was just too mucky for my poles to hold the boat steady...Out came the bog spikes...no more holding issues,,
I have a SBE 2 and do quite a good amount of duck hunting on saltwater. I wipe it down a few times during the season. ( its camo dipped) and don't clean the action till the season is over. The black finish on the bolt was prone to rusting due to the salty environment so I had my gunsmith...
Even on a motor painted with flat duckboat paint I always cover the motor with some type of fabric cover like canvas or burlap. I find the soft material soaks up the sunlight instead of reflecting it back out..crucial for the smart blackducks we have here on the Island..
Leave an old piece of...
Sad story....That fateful day we all dread and hope never happens..
Just goes to show you can do everything right ( life jackets, cell phone , etc) and still end in tragedy.
Prayers,,,,,,,
Knees arent feeling too good after sitting in the duckboat a few hours...Plus I almost never hunt in the rain anymore...
In fact I dont get fired up over mediocre conditions...I would rather wait for ideal conditions now or not go at all..I still love the snow especially..still enjoy that...
Just watched a big flock feeding in the fields near Point Lookout this past week. I remarked to myself..they'll be leaving soon only to basically turn around and head back!
Another benefit of putting out a nice brant rig is not only does it give brant a spot to land but once the hunting pressure kicks in youll find it draws ducks better than just a duck rig alone..Guess they feel safe in all those floating sets of eyes...
