starting to build a Widgeon. i picked up plans from DN Goodchild in 2015, plus Zack Taylors Successful Waterfowling.

Does the bow block look correct?

Hard to tell from the pictures if the dimensions are correct but I trust they are. Looks like you still need to mortise for the keel and add the thru bolt. Is the latter even needed?

Eric,

My plan was to mortise the keel once that is installed to get the fit correct. The bow block is 2” thick per plans and shaped as layed out. I plan to do final shaping once I am to point of putting plywood on.

If I read plan right there is air space between the form and the block as far as positioning.

There is a copy of the plans in the resources section of site under Zack Taylor sneakbox.

Should be correct if you are following the plan. Built one decades ago. My bow block was two piece with a thru bolt. Doesn't look like you need one. My mistake at the time was I modified the bow block to fit the length of the sides boards. Should have cut the sides to fit the bow block. The first major build I ever attempt, so a learning experience Never looked right and corrected it later.

I too built one 10-15 years ago. Still using it now. The bow block looks right, minus final shaping. Mine was also made from two pieces and through bolted. No need with a single piece.

Good luck, looking forward to following your progress. Mines ready for an overhaul and some upgrades. Hopefully next summer.

Thanks for your replies. I know a few members on the site have built one.

Not sure if I should create a thread to make finding posts easier to find or place it under Workbench.

I worked on creating the jig for building the ribs for the bottom. I drew the bottom gusset in VCarve Pro and cut a sample as a test out of 1/4 plywood.

Richard, if you are going to do a whole series of posts about the build and go into some detail then please make it its own thread.
