So, a couple weeks ago, a young man I've started hunting with killed a banded pintail down here in Arkansas. His first pintail, and the band was so worn, many of the numbers were gone. He was able to get some acid and read the numbers and turned it in.
Turns out the pintail was banded in 2012 in the Yukon something or other unit, Alaska. Hatched in 2011 or earlier.
Thought this was amazing; I knew when the band was so worn that it was an old bird...oddly enough, the sprig was pretty short...not the long, elegant one I would've expected.
Was really happy for him - this is the first year he's really seriously hunted ducks.
