The problem with ethanol is that it's Hygroscopic and can take moisture from the air if it gets exposed to air. So vented tanks will take moisture from the air and hold it in the tank. When I get done and I am gonna leave the motor for more then a week or so without running I hook up a small tank of ethanol free fuel. Even Tru fuel from homedepot is ethanol free. Then my system has no ethanol fuel while it sits. I keep the fuel tank vent closed and out of the sun.
I'm easily satisfied if I shoot a few pretty ducks on my terms, on my terms being the key.
I think you might be pleasantly surprised sir. Great big game state btw. I have never hunted anything with 4 legs (except Coyotes) but my good friend who films for Kuiu shows me stuff all the time. The area we are in is high, high, high desert with mid size permanent rivers and reservoirs. A lot of ducks breed there, which is fun to see families of gadwall, wigeon, swans etc... in summer. I'm moving for the big game hunting, but am hoping I can pull together some decent waterfowling when there. I am a pretty lazy duck hunter, I like the gear (the boats, the decoys, the dogs, etc...), but I don't push too hard, especially anymore.
Not sure it could be anything in the carb. Severe cold makes all metal shrink. I am having an issue with deterioration of the internal fuel lines clogging up the carb. I replaced them all but still suspect inside the fuel pump are small bits of rubber. If anything makes it the needle and seat it will hold the needle open. Also the tip of the needle can get deformed and not make a seal. If you rebuild it make sure your floats are set based on the Yamaha procedure make mine just about level upside down.
