Hello all! Semi retired & semi- disabled. 65 now; Lived most of my life on Long Island, NY I have sailed, fished, paddled the Adirondack lakes, and snowmobiled across them too! Owned many small craft, never hunted, but my son does. (I do however shoot trap, taggets, and participate in my rights to bear arms.) currently scaling down my small vessels, due to walking anc carrying issues. (can no longer handle my unfish, or Sportboat- only able to Kayak now.

Oh, and due to an earlier log in (which due to sort term memory issues from multiple surgeries over the past 8 years....) I had created a user name thet describes me well, but did not put my name in it. SO for those who have seen any of my replies or posts, I am not a non conformist, LOL
I am aslo not unknown in the business Politiceal, and social media... My Name Is Howard Nathan. and I'm happy tohave found this community.

Welcome! We have a good number of guys from up in your area.
Maybe Eric can fix the old login / username issue. BTW, I did send you a PM before I saw this post.

Welcome aboard! I, too, am an old Long Island duck hunter. Born in '53, I grew up in East Islip. Worked for NYSDEC out of Stony Brook in the '80s and '90s. I served as the Waterfowl Biologist, among other things.
I hunted ducks, geese and brant all around Long Island - with many fine memories on Moriches Bay. Dug clams on Great South Bay. Sailed an old gaff sloop on Bellport Bay. Have built 19 boats so far - and have restored and customized scores of gunning vessels. Lots of decoy work, too. And many friends on Shelter Island through Mashomack.

re Central New York: My Dad ran Sampson State Park on Seneca Lake for 12 years or so. My wife and I (and later my son) went to Cornell in the early '70s. I am in the midst of
"retrieving" from there a Sneakbox I bought back in 1971 - long story told here a couple of months ago and which I will be updating soon. See Duckboat Detectives - The latest case in February.

Since the mid-90s we have lived northeast of Albany - in the dairy country of Washington County.

I have more canoes than I can count (18?) - including some Grummans. Although I carve many of my own decoys, in recent years I have been gathering up old Herter's and Wildfowlers and putting them back into ready-to-hunt condition. You're out in Ken Harris country now. I do not own any but have restored a few.

All the best!
