Hot summer days

and cool summer nights, makes for bug filled afternoons and morning fishing excursions. I slipped away from home for a couple days. Just a couple hours away, but at times I was all alone except for the animals around me. Did not get a photo, but I saw a Bobcat in Iowa, a first for me.
The streams were in good shape, for the most part. Many of Iowa's streams, get much too warm, mid summer, to support a healthy trout population. I prefer to check out the areas where other fishermen fail to go. Doing so is not always a success. High banks, high thick weeds and deep silt welcomed me at one location. Try as I might, I was forced to turn back around, midstream, when I encountered near knee deep, boot sucking, silt. In this section of the stream, the Iowa farm ground had covered over the rocky substrate.
A new location proved to be more successful, yielding a full creel and several meals for the future.

Nice bunch of rainbows Dave. Are those stocked fish? They're good sized for stockies.
Yes, those are stocked. That may be one of the "pluses" for mid summer, the stocking sizes are better than earlier in the year. In one location I observed two fish noticeably larger than the rest that were present. Quite predicably, those two biggies, ignored my offerings, following, but never partaking.
