Long line weight ideas

With the current I deal with, I use grapnels and 5 lead pyramids. Dash weights just drag. I have sand cast and plaster cast my pyramids. I even have a few 10 pound pyramids for heavy decoys in ripping current.

The best weights I've seen were long pyramids (think ice cream cone proportions), I think it was Steve Sutton that had them, they were sand cast and worked really well, don't know who he got them from.
Thats a good description Tod... I'd just cut the pointy end off. Here is are some pictures of my current mould. The rod across the top is used to mount the eye bolt.

I mount the eye bolt in a pieces of aluminum bar that has a wing nut to hold the eye

Then suspend the eye bolt in the mould

I just put how much lead I want in the mould and I use a big torch to melt the lead. It's fast and no pouring is necessary. With this setup I can may up to a 40-45lb anchor. If I were to do it again I would have a much taller "ice cream cone" shape.

I have access to unlimited lead and stoves to melt it so I just grab what I need . But we also have some 5lb plate weights with an eyebolt and washers through the hole for the bar. I want to say buying them is around $1 lb. So if you needed more weight buy a bigger plate.

Buddy uses large soup/bean cans full of concrete. They work pretty good and we hunt the Detroit River / Lake Erie .

If you’re ever up in SE Mi I can probably get some weights for you, at least the raw lead . 1” thick 4-6” round plates. Drill a hole and put eye bolt through.
